Surgical Account Manager

Job Description - Surgical Account Manager

Phoenix / Tucson, AZ | Southwest Territory | 50%+ Travel

MED-EL is seeking a Surgical Account Manager for our Southwest Sales Region, with a primary focus on the Phoenix and Tucson markets and coverage throughout the broader Southwest territory.

This is a highly visible, field-based position combining medical device sales, strategic account management, and hands-on surgical support. You’ll develop strong relationships with surgeons, audiologists, hospital teams, and other healthcare professionals while driving sales growth and supporting MED-EL hearing implant procedures throughout the Southwest.

This is a travel-intensive role, with approximately 50% or more travel throughout the Southwest region. Candidates should be comfortable regularly traveling to customer accounts, hospitals, surgical cases, meetings, and events across the territory, with occasional travel outside the region.

What You’ll Do

Drive Growth Across the Southwest

  • Own and develop customer relationships across the Southwest sales territory, with significant activity in Arizona.
  • Achieve regional sales goals and identify new business opportunities that drive territory growth.
  • Develop and execute account strategies in partnership with the Regional Director and Southwest regional team.
  • Build trusted relationships with surgeons, audiologists, operating room teams, hospital leadership, purchasing departments, and other key decision-makers.
  • Understand the purchasing and decision-making processes within assigned hospitals and healthcare systems.
  • Support pricing and purchase agreement discussions while maintaining knowledge of relevant market and competitive trends.

Provide Expert Surgical & Clinical Support

  • Provide hands-on support for hearing implant surgical procedures throughout the territory.
  • Serve as an expert resource to surgeons and operating room teams regarding MED-EL products, technology, instrumentation, and surgical applications.
  • Provide product demonstrations and training to surgeons, audiologists, OR personnel, physicians-in-training, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support intraoperative implant evaluation and basic Auditory Response Telemetry (ART).
  • Develop expertise in relevant anatomy, hearing conditions, implant indications and contraindications, and surgical approaches.
  • Support more complex implant procedures, including unusual anatomy and revision cases, following appropriate training.
  • Coordinate product availability, implant selection, ordering, delivery, and surgical case coverage.

Manage & Grow Key Accounts

  • Maintain accurate account, contact, market share, activity, and relationship information in the company CRM.
  • Gather market intelligence and account data to support Southwest territory planning.
  • Work closely with Customer Service, Reimbursement, Operations, Finance, and regional teammates to deliver a high-quality customer experience.
  • Maintain necessary vendor credentials and comply with applicable hospital and healthcare facility policies.
  • Manage device and consignment inventory as needed.

The Territory

This position supports MED-EL’s Southwest Sales Region, with a strong focus on Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, as well as customers and surgical cases throughout the broader Southwest territory.

Because success in this role depends on being present with customers and supporting surgical cases, candidates should expect 50%+ travel and be comfortable with a dynamic schedule based on customer and operating room needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to surgical/clinical support, hearing healthcare, audiology, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to establish credibility with surgeons and healthcare professionals in clinical and operating room environments.
  • Ability to independently manage a geographically dispersed territory and multiple customer accounts.
  • Strong technology and CRM skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 50% or more throughout the Southwest sales region, including regular travel within the Phoenix and Tucson markets and surrounding territory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Audiology or a related surgical/clinical discipline.
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) or comparable clinical credentials.
  • Experience in medical device sales, surgical support, hearing implants, audiology, or account management.
  • Experience working directly with surgeons, OR teams, hospitals, or healthcare systems.
