Surgical Assistant

Description

MEDRVA Surgery Centers is currently looking for a Surgical Assistant to join our team.  The Surgical Assistant assists in the nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient by performance of routine and delegated duties.  Come join a fun fast-paced ambulatory surgery center with two dynamic locations in Richmond and the Short Pump area.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Maintain integrity of sterile field; drape patient within surgeon’s guidelines. 
• Observes operative procedure closely and anticipates the need of the operative team.   
• Assists in moving and positioning of patient.   
• Anticipates and recognizes special problems as they arise.   
• Initiates appropriate corrective action when necessary. 
• Provides direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient requirements as directed by the physician; use medical equipment in accordance with standards; demonstrate continued competence in all facets of ambulatory surgery. 
• Works with surgical team to turnover room after procedures. 
• Cross-trained to function in more than one specialty as needed and shares responsibility for covering late cases. 
• Carries out physician orders efficiently and appropriately. 

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Technologists 
• Graduate of Surgical Assistant program (required)
• Surgical Assistant certification (preferred)
• Minimum 2 years of experience in an operating room
