Surgical Estimator

Established in 1970, Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, P.C., is one of the areas largest orthopedic practices with office locations throughout greater Hartford. 

Our growing practice is currently seeking a Surgical Estimator with Epic experience to join our Billing & Collections team in our Farmington business office. The successful candidate will be a team player who is dependable, organized, enthusiastic, and detail oriented. Important to this position is the ability to build relationships with our customers, both internal and external to promote feedback and timely resolution of outstanding claims. Proficiency in many computer software programs is required as well as an understanding of insurance payment methodologies to insure accurate reimbursement. A positive "can-do" attitude is a must.

The successful candidate will be a team player who is dependable, organized, enthusiastic, and detail oriented. The Surgical Estimator is responsible for promptly and efficiently responding to patient requests for out-of-pocket surgical costs prior to the surgery.

Responsibilities:

• Handle incoming calls from patients.
• Verify patient benefits on-line to determine if a deductible will need to be met and/or if a co-insurance will be involved.
• Utilize software to estimate physician charges and patient financial responsibility.
• Communicate estimates of patient financial responsibility via phone and mail.
• Additional tasks as needed to facilitate collections of patient's portion of charges.

Requirements

• High School diploma required.
• Minimum of 3-4 years of recent  medical billing experience.
• Solid foundation of all aspects of medical insurance billing and collections, including basic knowledge of medical coding, and working knowledge of posting charges and payments, and of medical insurance benefits.
• Highly computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel and preferably, experience with GE Centricity.
• Ability to work independently, multi-task, and exercise sound judgement in interactions with patients.
• Organizational and time management skills, as evidenced by capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components.
• Strong oral and written communication skills required, with a professional and courteous telephone manner.
• Highly committed team player; proactive self-starter; reliable and able to be flexible in a changing environment.
• Reliable transportation for travel to other sites for meetings and/or assistance in training from-office staff in the collection of billing information and related issues as needed.
