We are seeking a qualified Surgical Neuromonitoring Technician to support intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) at VA medical facilities. This role is critical in assessing the functional integrity of a patient’s peripheral and central nervous systems during surgery and other acute care procedures. The position requires compliance with all VA, federal, and clinical guidelines, including credentialing and privileging, licensure, immunizations, and training.
Perform real-time neurophysiological monitoring during surgical procedures (e.g., spine, ENT, vascular, orthopedic).
Operate and interpret evoked potential and EEG/IOM equipment to assess nerve function.
Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and neurologists to ensure patient safety.
Maintain accurate intraoperative records and patient reports.
Adhere to all VA facility medical staff bylaws, policies, and infection control protocols.
Complete all mandatory VA training (e.g., BLS/ACLS, HIPAA, EHR, Suicide Prevention).
Provide verification of continuous professional education (CME/CEU) and up-to-date certifications.
Licensure: Must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice in any U.S. state or territory.
Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM).
Experience: At least 3 years of relevant clinical experience, including Otolaryngologic and Orthopedic cases.
Education: Documentation of all educational and training history, including any gaps.
Technical Proficiency: Ability to operate and troubleshoot IONM equipment and interpret neurophysiological data.
Language Proficiency: Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
Credentialing: Must meet all requirements under VHA Directive 1100.20 and 1100.21 prior to providing services.
Training: Must complete all required VA trainings prior to start and maintain annual certifications.
Immunizations & Testing (Prior to Start):
Tuberculosis (TST or IGRA), or chest X-ray for positive results
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
Varicella
Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
Influenza (Annual)
Bloodborne Pathogen & Hepatitis B training or records
Training Topics Include (but not limited to):
EHR, HIPAA, Patient Safety, Suicide Prevention, Workplace Harassment, MRI Safety (if applicable)
National Provider Identifier (NPI): Must possess a valid NPI number and taxonomy code.
OIG Compliance: Must not appear on the HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities.
Citizenship/Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. in compliance with the Immigration and Nationality Act and E-Verify requirements.
Active ACLS and BLS certifications
Experience working in VA, DoD, or other federal medical facilities
Familiarity with VA clinical systems (e.g., VistA, CPRS)
On-site at VA medical facilities during surgeries
Requires standing for long periods, operating sensitive medical equipment, and responding to surgical team needs in real-time
Must comply with VA infection control and emergency protocols
