Surgical Processing Tech

**PER DIEM POSITION **

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, assembles, wraps instruments trays to be sterilized. Follows proper standard precautions while in decontamination or prep and pack areas.


• Monitors biological testing of equipment and ensures the parameters are met to the standards of quality control.


• Organize and assist in building trays and specific instrument sets according to physician request and make readily available for our patients in a timely manner.


• Restocks, labels, and maintains par levels for SPD department.


• Assists vendors with checking in trays for specific or specialized surgeries.


• Maintain inventory and log for loaner trays.


• Assures endoscopes quality meets cleaning standards and are stored appropriately.


• Works collaboratively with and supports team members.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

• High School graduate.


• Completion of a formal sterile processing training program preferred.


• Sterile processing certification required.


• Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing (CER) through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) within 6 months of hire date.


• One year in an acute care facility with experience in Sterile Processing or other related areas.


• Materials management experience preferred.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

• Physically demanding, high-stress environment


• Exposure to blood, sharp instruments and other devices, body fluids and tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions


• Manual and finger dexterity


• Hand and eye coordination


• Standing and walking for extensive periods of time


• Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs


• Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range


• Working under stressful conditions
