Surgical Services Attendant

Summary:

Works under Registered Nurse supervision and in collaboration with Environmental Services Dept to facilitate the safe and effective functioning of Surgical Services Dept, maintaining safe and clean environment, extending support to ASU, PACU, and Anesthesia Dept. in facilitating work flow by providing patient care as directed by RN and with accepted CAN standards, in the State Specified Scope of Practice following Hospital policies and procedures. Additionally, SSA performs sterile processing duties under the direct supervision of RN or CST limited to cleaning, decontaminating and processing equipment to achieve high level disinfection.

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

CNA certification/eligibility required

Experience Required:

Previous experience in hospital setting preferred

Special Requirements:

Ability to function in surgical environment

Cognitive Requirements:

Ability to withstand emotional pressures associated within the medical setting

Physical Demands:

1. Ability to be on feet for most of shift
2. Ability to lift, pull, push, stoop and reach
3. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
4. Adequate vision
5. No significant allergy to dust or cleaning supplies

Environment:

1. Must be able to work with employees, patients and visitors of the Hospital
2. Will be exposed to hazardous waste and/or body fluids
