The Certified Surgical Technologist plays a vital role in the surgical team by assisting surgeons and nursing staff in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care throughout surgical procedures. This position ensures the operating room is properly prepared, maintains sterile technique, and supports the surgical team before, during, and after each procedure.
Prepare and organize the operating room, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile, assembled, and functioning properly.
Maintain a sterile field and adhere to strict aseptic technique throughout each procedure.
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by efficiently passing instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
Identify and report any breaks in sterile technique to the circulating nurse and surgeon.
Properly handle, label, and prepare surgical specimens for laboratory processing.
Safely isolate contaminated instruments and supplies to reduce the risk of infection.
Clean, disinfect, and restock operating rooms following each procedure.
Assist with inventory management of surgical instruments and supplies.
Support a positive, collaborative environment within the surgical team.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or physicians.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Current Surgical Technologist certification.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain upon hire if applicable).
Minimum of one year of operating room experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Membership in a professional surgical specialty organization.
Experience in an ambulatory surgery center or ophthalmic surgical setting.

This position requires the ability to:
Stand for extended periods of time.
Bend, stoop, reach, grasp, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.
Lift up to 15 pounds on a regular basis.
Maintain close visual attention while assisting during surgical procedures.
Work in an environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens, communicable diseases, chemicals, steam, pressurized cylinders, sharp instruments, and moving equipment.
