Summary:

 Per Diem position responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to acute pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric surgical patients. This includes the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Surgical Unit and MDI Hospital. Additionally, this role involves delegating and supervising patient care activities performed by unlicensed Surgical Services Staff and Ancillary personnel.

Requirements

Education, Training or Certifications Required:

1. Graduate from an NLN accredited school of nursing.
2. Current BLS/ACLS/PALS certification required.
3. Specialty certification encouraged.

Experience Required:

1. Previous Ambulatory Surgery nursing care experience required.
2. Minimum 1-2 years acute care nursing experience required.

Special Requirements:

1. Proficient IV/Portacath access skills.
2. Strong interpersonal skills.
3. Emotional maturity and good people skills required.
4. Familiarity with computer applications.

Cognitive Requirements:

1. Ability to integrate clinical information into a useful format and communicate such to MDs, Anesthesia and Nursing personnel.
2. Ability to work calmly and effectively in emergency situations and cope effectively with stress.
3. Ability to prioritize workload.

Physical Demands:

1. Must have adequate hearing, vision and manual dexterity.
2. Must be able to engage in long periods of standing/walking/bending.
3. Must be able to engage in moderate to heavy lifting (25-50 lbs.).
4. Must be able to push heavy objects (stretchers/chairs).
5. General health must be such as to work regularly scheduled hours and to meet the demands of an active position.
6. Must pass employee physical prior to orientation to position.
7. Must be physically able to perform CPR.
