Inova Fair Oaks Hospital
is seeking a Full-time Surgical Technologist to join our dedicated Operating Room team in the delivery of high-level surgical care to our community. Inova Fair Oaks is a nationally recognized Center of Excellence for the Surgical Specialties of Spine and Bariatric and provides Surgical Services in the Specialties of General Surgery, Orthopedics (Total Joints), Podiatry, Breast, Plastics, Urology, GYN, Head and Neck, Dental, Robotics (Davinci), and Laparoscopic Surgeries for multiple Surgical Specialties.
Our Operating Room is a fast-paced environment, performing on average
40-60
surgical cases per day, with a focus on strong teamwork, delivering a high level of safe and quality care to our patients. The facility operates 24/7 with most of the hours of operation being covered by in-house staff. There is an on-call commitment requirement, but it tends to be low, only between
12 to 24 hours per 6-week schedule . We strive to assist our staff in achieving a positive work-life balance by offering a competitive salary, flexible scheduling, variable shifts, and minimal on-call requirements. This position is eligible for a
$10,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.
The
Surgical Technologist 1
performs and/or provides scrub assistance during procedures that reflect an awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and adequate knowledge base. Can demonstrate knowledge and practice of basic patient care concepts and surgical case preparation skills. Demonstrates the ability to perform the role of the first scrub on all basic surgical cases. Assists the circulating nurse in implementing the perioperative plan of care to include patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of the operative site, updating physician preference card, care of operative specimens, and room turnover. Identifies factors relative to the patient's age and developmental stage that must be considered during the surgical procedure. Assists with pulling cases and checks case carts for completeness, obtain supplies and equipment and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins. Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on the scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card. Follows policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up the back table, draping, and counting with the circulating nurse. Exercises care in the operation and use of instruments/equipment/ and reports/follow the appropriate procedure for broken items. Follows OSHA and hospital infection control policies at all times. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, which includes passing instruments, sutures, and other items appropriate to the procedure. Establishes and maintains an organized sterile field. Adheres to unit specific standards, policies, and procedures for aseptic technique. Selects proper sterilization method of instruments/equipment; sterilizes before procedures, as necessary, and verifies instruments as sterile. Takes corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions, or breaks in aseptic technique occur and report information to the circulating nurse. Position Requirements:
Required Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Education : Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program. If no surgical technologist experience, then must have graduated within the last year.
Required Experience:
None
Preferred Experience:
Recent Hospital experience and/or previous practice experience.
Required Certification/License :
Surgical Technologist registration required
Must be eligible for Surgical Technologist registration via Commonwealth of Virginia at time of hire. Registration must be completed within 6 months of hire.
BLS via AHA required Preferred Certification/License:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C) via NCCT
