Job Description - Survey Technician

We are seeking a Survey Technician to join our survey team. This position includes office-based survey drafting and opportunities to be in the field. You'll spend most of your time drafting with Civil 3D/Auto CAD and conducting research and working with legal descriptions. You'll have the option to work from your home or from our Madison office, or a combination of those two options when completing office work.

Most of our survey work is in WI, MN, IL, and IA so we are looking for someone who is willing to travel within this area. Some extended travel may be required occasionally, including overnight stays.

We're multidisciplinary by design, because having a diverse staff with a range of expertise challenges us to approach projects with more creativity and agility. Your day to day as a SURVEY TECHNICIAN

Our Survey Technicians work collaboratively on survey projects performing various types of on-site surveys, including boundary, topographic, and construction staking, ensuring accurate data collection to meet project specifications and requirements. When in the field, you will regularly use survey equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, levels, and data collectors.

Using the data that is collected, you'll draft surveys in Civil 3D/AutoCAD, preparing base maps, plats, and construction exhibits. You'll also conduct research and support the team with additional office-related work.

Our clients rely on your information, so accuracy, efficiency, and completeness are crucial in this role.

What matters most

To thrive in this role, you will possess an associates or bachelor's degree in land surveying or a related field and have at least 2 years' experience, preferably in telecommunications, construction, or the civil engineering industry, but not required.

You should be highly proficient with Civil 3D/AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office and be passionate about the technical office side of surveying.

A strong understanding of land surveying principles, boundary determination, and topographic data collection is required, as well as experience using the tools in which to execute these principles.

You will be an excellent communicator, keeping all stakeholders informed, and maintain a positive attitude with a collaborative mindset.

While the field work will be on occasion, candidates should enjoy being outdoors in all types of weather and site conditions, willing to travel (sometimes overnight), and will need to be able to lift up to 50 lbs, traverse rugged terrain, complete hand excavations, and set corners/stakes with a large hammer. A valid driver's license with a good driving record is required.

Join us!

This position is eligible for our full benefits package including health insurance with a company-funded health reimbursement account, dental, vision, life, disability, accident, critical illness, and pet insurance options. Additionally, we offer two retirement plans with our 401(k) plan with a company match and our employee stock ownership plan which is fully-funded by Ramaker. Ramaker supports your work/life balance by offering compressed workweeks, vacation, sick, and holiday pay.

If you need an accommodation as part of the employment process, please contact Human Resources at 608-643-4100 or at [email protected].

Ramaker requires a post-offer pre-employment drug screening and background check as a condition of employment, when allowed by state and federal law.
