The Surveyor is primarily a field-based role responsible for leading survey crews in the collection of accurate field data across various project types. This position requires extensive outdoor work in diverse terrain and weather conditions. The Surveyor will operate and maintain technical surveying equipment, supervise field personnel, and ensure compliance with survey standards, safety protocols, and project specifications. The position involves daily travel to project sites, primarily operating from a field vehicle rather than an office setting.

Primary Responsibilities
Lead and directly participate in field-based survey crews, primarily working outdoors at project sites
Conduct various field surveys including boundary, topographic, construction, ALTA/ACSM land title, as-built, and environmental surveys
Operate, maintain, and transport survey equipment including robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and conventional survey tools
Research and analyze field data discrepancies, boundary conflicts, and survey control issues on-site
Perform field calculations and data verification while on project sites
Implement appropriate safety protocols and traffic control measures in field environments
Maintain field vehicles, equipment, and supplies to ensure readiness for daily deployment
Record detailed field notes, sketches, and digital data while on-site
Communicate daily with Survey Manager regarding field progress, challenges, and completion status
Travel between multiple job sites, sometimes requiring overnight stays
Train junior field staff in proper survey techniques, equipment operation, and field safety
Identify and resolve field-specific issues independently while maintaining project schedules
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
4+ years of field surveying experience
Demonstrated experience operating robotic total stations and GPS/GNSS equipment
Valid driver's license with clean driving record
Ability to work in all weather conditions and varied terrain
Physical capability to stand/walk for extended periods and carry equipment up to 50 lbs
Strong field calculation and problem-solving skills
Experience supervising field crews
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of field surveying methods, techniques, and equipment
Ability to interpret plans, plats, legal descriptions, and engineering drawings in the field
Strong skills in field mathematics and calculations
Proficient in the use and maintenance of robotic total stations and GPS/GNSS equipment
Knowledge of proper field safety procedures and traffic control methods
Strong leadership and communication skills for directing field crews
Ability to maintain accurate and detailed field notes and records
Skill in identifying and resolving discrepancies between plans and field conditions
Self-motivated with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines
Decision-making skills for addressing field challenges autonomously
Team-oriented with ability to train and mentor junior field staff
Working Conditions
Primarily field-based position (approximately 90% field, 10% office)
Required to work outdoors in all weather conditions year-round
Frequent travel to job sites within the region by company vehicle
Occasional overnight travel required
Regular exposure to uneven terrain, construction sites, traffic, and natural elements
Physically demanding role requiring standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the day
