Sustaining Engineer

Position Title: Sustaining Engineer

Location: Santa Ana, CA  

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full- Time  

Job Summary:   

The Sustaining Engineer supports the ongoing production and lifecycle management of electronic products, with a focus on continuous improvement, quality resolution, and cost optimization. This role works cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and design teams to troubleshoot production issues, implement engineering changes, and ensure product integrity throughout its lifecycle. 

Key Responsibilities:   

• Provide technical support for manufacturing of electronic assemblies, including PCBAs, cable harnesses, and electromechanical systems. 
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, non-conformances, and test failures by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions. 
• Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), including updates to BOMs, schematics, assembly drawings, and work instructions. 
• Support component lifecycle management, including alternate sourcing, obsolescence handling, and part qualifications. 
• Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing teams to implement process improvements, reduce defects, and improve yields. 
• Analyze customer returns and field failures; drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA). 
• Maintain product documentation in compliance with IPC standards and ISO quality requirements. 
• Participate in cost reduction and value engineering initiatives without compromising form, fit, or function. 
• Serve as a technical liaison between production, engineering, and supply chain to ensure consistent product performance. 

Qualifications:   

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related discipline. 
• 2+ years of experience in sustaining or manufacturing engineering within an electronics manufacturing environment. 

Physical Requirements:   

• Ability to work in both office and production floor environments. 
• Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. 
• Visual acuity and manual dexterity to inspect components and operate diagnostic tools or lab equipment.
