Job Description - SVP, Performance Marketing

Open position in Portsmouth, NH, St Louis, MO, Kansas City, MO, Minneapolis, MN, Columbia MO; Hybrid work schedule; 2 days in the office, 3 days working from home

The Opportunity


Swell Media is looking for a rare type of performance marketer.


Someone who doesn’t need platform reps to tell them what to do.


Someone who understands not just what to do inside Google Ads and Meta, but why it works, when it works, and how to adapt when it doesn’t.


The person we’re looking for has likely spent years deep in the trenches scaling ecommerce brands, lead generation businesses, and B2B companies. You’ve managed accounts where millions of dollars are on the line. You’ve seen algorithms change, attribution break, and competitors flood auctions, and you’ve figured out how to win anyway.


You’re equal parts strategist, operator, and teacher.


People come to you when accounts plateau.


Clients trust you when growth gets difficult.


Teams follow you because you’ve actually done the work.


This isn’t a “manage from a distance” leadership role.


You’ll lead the agency’s most important relationships, mentor the next generation of performance marketers, and remain deeply involved in solving the hardest growth challenges our clients face.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)


Product & Process Leadership


You’ll oversee strategy across complex:



  • Ecommerce brands

  • Lead generation businesses

  • B2B organizations

  • Multi-location companies

  • High-growth challengers


You’ll be accountable for:



  • Revenue growth

  • CAC and CPA efficiency

  • LTV optimization

  • Pipeline generation

  • Incremental growth


Platform Expertise


You should possess deep expertise in:


Paid Search



  • Google Search

  • Shopping

  • Performance Max

  • YouTube

  • Merchant Center


Paid Social



  • Meta

  • LinkedIn

  • TikTok


You understand:



  • Account architecture

  • Bidding systems

  • Audience strategy

  • Creative iteration frameworks

  • Feed optimization

  • First-party data signals

  • Offline conversion tracking

  • Attribution challenges

  • Scaling strategies


Measurement & Data


You know how to connect media to business outcomes.


Experience with:



  • GA4

  • Google Tag Manager

  • CRM integrations

  • Shopify

  • HubSpot and Salesforce

  • Offline conversions

  • Revenue attribution

  • Pipeline reporting

  • Incrementality testing


Technical Problem Solving



  • You are the escalation point.

  • When performance stalls, tracking breaks, or attribution gets messy, you’re the person that can diagnose the issue and build a path forward.

  • You don’t accept “the platform changed” as an explanation.


Leadership



  • You’ll lead a team of high-performing specialists and managers while building systems, playbooks, and training that elevate everyone around you.

  • We’re looking for a player-coach.

  • Someone who still loves opening accounts.

  • Someone who enjoys audits.

  • Someone who gets excited about testing.

  • Someone who can teach.

Qualifications - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • 10+ years in performance marketing, preferably in agencies.

  • Extensive experience across both paid search and paid social.

  • Proven success scaling ecommerce, lead generation, and/or B2B businesses.

  • Deep understanding of attribution, measurement, and first-party data.

  • Experience managing sophisticated clients with meaningful media budgets.

  • Strong leadership skills with a willingness to remain hands-on.


Bonus Points



  • Experience with scripts, APIs, or automation.

  • Feed optimization experience.

  • Incrementality and lift testing experience.

  • Experience scaling businesses beyond platform-reported ROAS.

  • Strong opinions backed by data.
