Responsible for planning, preparing for, and teaching swim lessons.
Supervision Received: The Swim Instructor works under the general supervision of the Aquatic Manager.

Swim Instructors must be able to perform all the essential tasks required by the position, including but not limited to:
Plan, prepare, and teach swim lessons in accordance with facility protocols and agency curriculum:
Maintain the safety of all swimmers in assigned group at all times; never turn your back on your class.
Create and submit lessons plans for assigned groups. Communicate curriculum and equipment needs to Aquatic Manager in a timely fashion.
Be able to audit swimmer’s skills and assist in assigning appropriate class; Adjust lesson plans to meet student’s needs.
Teach swimming skills in accordance with American Red Cross standards. Be able to demonstrate and explain skills.
Maintain adequate course records, including attendance and skills sheets. Complete report cards at the end of session.
Respond to accidents or situations in or out of the water and provide first aid, CPR, and other assistance, as necessary.
Help keep the Aquatic Center clean and uncluttered.
Help maintain pool areas by putting in/taking out lane lines, cleaning decks, covering, and uncovering the pools, and removing all unnecessary equipment from the pool areas.
Report unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Assume responsibility for maintaining positive relations with patrons:
Always conduct oneself in a professional manner and be dressed in proper uniform.
Assist and support patrons in a positive and productive manner.
Respond to questions and/or concerns in a prompt fashion.
Check in regularly with parents and guardians regarding swimmer’s progress.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relations with personnel and management.
Attending all staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
Assist other swim instructors and area personnel, as necessary.
Participate in emergency scenarios according to role and training.
Provide input for Aquatic area planning.
Discuss areas of concern with appropriate personnel.
Other duties as assigned.
Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and patrons.
Must hold current certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training
Standard First Aid
CPR
Must be at least 15 years of age.
Various shifts, including early mornings, mid-day, evenings, and weekends.
Work occurs in variable weather conditions including warm weather, water, and prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Tasks may entail muscular strain, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, and swimming.
Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential to performing job requirements. Common eye, hand and finger dexterity is required for most essential functions.
