JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Beach Director, the Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons, emphasizing and maintaining safety during all lessons; promoting enjoyment of swimming and completing progress reports for classes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of 16 years of age.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred.
• Current CPR certification for professional rescuer.
• Ability to enforce beach rules.
• Ability to collaborate with coworkers.
• Project a positive image and neat appearance to visitors of the Crystal Lake Park District.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Take initiative and responsibility.
• Perform duties with minimal supervision.
• Make timely and effective decisions.
• Able to demonstrate competence and ability according to Park District standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Lead participants through swimming lessons and/or other aquatic programming in accordance with Crystal Lake Park District Swim School curriculum.
• Remain familiar with Crystal Lake Park District aquatic program offerings and give suggestions to public as needed.
• Create a positive experience for program participants and exhibit patience with all swimmers.
• Remain professional, reliable and punctual. Attend all assigned swim lesson sessions and find substitute instructors for missed classes.
• Attend swim lessons trainings and staff meetings as assigned.
• Keep a watchful eye out for any public safety hazards and report it immediately, or repair personally, if possible.
• Light maintenance tasks will be performed to upkeep and keep the parks clean.
• Wear assigned uniforms while on duty.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
