Switchboard Operator

Position Overview 

SAIC is looking for outstanding Switchboard candidates to join our Defense & Civilian Sector in support of the US Department of Transportation. The DOT Switchboard Agent is the first line of contact with the DOT customer base.  

Switchboard Operator Duties and Responsibilities 

• Answer Incoming Calls 
  
  
  
  • Switchboard operators answer incoming calls and redirect calls to the appropriate DOT department, using the Switchboard Directory and other DOT resources 
  
  
  • Research the DOT intranet and/or internet to assist with providing the caller with information 
  
  


• Clerical Tasks 
  
  
  
  • Record calls daily in spreadsheet 
  
  
  • Research, collect, and verify Switchboard Directory information for customers and DOT personnel 
  
  
  • Maintain the Switchboard Directory to ensure accuracy of phone numbers, email addresses or websites
  
  


• Train new staff 

Required Experience: 

• High school diploma and 2 years of working experience required
• Must have 1 year of experience providing customer service support in a business organization 
• Excellent phone skills 
• Top-notch communication and listening skills 
• Basic computer proficiency 
• Experience in a customer service role (preferred) 
• Must possess a High School Diploma 
• Degree may be substituted with 2 additional years of related experience 
• Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
• U.S. citizenship required
