Job Description - SY DVA 24-25 Special Education Teacher


Special Education Teacher, Desert View Academy 


Reports to: Special Education Leader/ Principal 


We are looking for a Special Education (SPED) Teacher to join our team of dedicated educators at Desert View Academy. 


At DVA, we implement a growth mindset and believe all students can learn and demonstrate growth.The SPED teacher will inspire and guide students in mastering skills and achieving individual goals. 


Job Description 


Under the supervision of the building Principal and Leader of Special Education, the Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with various disabilities. Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated policies and procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students. 


 


Responsibilities 


● Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP. 


● Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques. 


● Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals. 


● Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals. 


● Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies


● Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP. 


● Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources. 


● Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations


● Monitor student’s behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed 


● Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict 


 


Essential Functions of the Position 


● Provide instruction sufficient to achieve student performance results, while


maintaining professionalism with students, co-workers, administrators, volunteers, and parents 


● Assure instructional integrity 


● Maintain a positive learning culture 


● Comply with all policies and organizational processes and support the overall mission and vision of Desert View Academy 


● Maintain all safety rules and expectations 


● Ability to problem solve 


● Self-starter with ability to multitask, establish and rearrange priorities, and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment 


● Exceptional organizational and project management skills 


● Attend all professional development meetings and opportunities for professional growth 


● Display a continual focus on self-improvement and continuous learning


● Understand and use digital curriculum; both the student and teacher view


● Participate in outdoor activities, ie playground supervision, safety drills and activities, traffic duties etc. 


● All other duties as assigned by Administration 


 


Essential Qualifications 


● Proven experience as a Special Education teacher or relevant role


● Knowledge of current special education methodologies 


● Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities


● Ability to implement IEPs 


● A patient, resourceful, and resilient personality 


● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 


● IVP Level DPS issued Fingerprint Clearance Card 


● Valid AZ Special Education teaching certificate 


● Bachelor's degree in Special Education 


 


Working Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors 


● Maintain emotional control under stress 


● Work with frequent interruptions 


● Operate a computer and other electronic devices which require repetitive


motions 


● Position oneself to assist staff, students or other duties as assigned


● Work primarily indoors with exposure to fluorescent lighting 


● May also be exposed to outdoor elements when performing 


outside responsibilities 


● Occasional travel 


● Frequent prolonged and irregular hours
