Job Description - SY26-27 High School Teacher (All Subjects)

Innovation (“Innovation”) Charter High School nurtures and develops students to be academically successful, socially mature, emotionally healthy, and equipped to lead self-directed and fulfilling lives. We welcome all students and empower them to adapt, excel, innovate, and lead.



Position Description


Innovation Charter High School is seeking dedicated, reflective, and student-centered teachers across all subject areas to join our instructional team. To achieve Innovation’s mission, teachers ensure that all student-innovators meet rigorous academic goals through engaging, inclusive, and standards-aligned instruction.


Teachers at Innovation co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess students in inclusive classroom environments. Under the direction of the Principal and Assistant Principals, and in collaboration with Special Education Coordinators and Department Chairs, teachers develop and implement instructional programs that meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of our students and enable all learners to reach their full potential.



Minimum Qualifications



  • Must possess or be working toward New York State Initial, Professional, or Permanent Teaching Certification in the applicable subject area (7–12 preferred). 

  • Enrollment in a certification pathway or graduate school of education required if not yet certified. 

  • Prior classroom teaching experience in an urban or diverse school setting is preferred.

  • Master’s degree preferred.



Goals and Responsibilities


Our primary goal is to ensure that every student earns a high school diploma and is prepared to enter college or pursue a meaningful career pathway.



Teachers at Innovation are responsible for the following:



  • Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-based instruction aligned to New York State learning standards. 

  • Differentiate units, lessons, and assessments to meet the individual learning needs, strengths, and interests of all students, including students with IEPs and English Language LearnersTeach or co-teach five instructional periods daily using effective co-teaching models when applicable.

  • Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and improve instructional practiceCollaborate with Department Teams, Department Chairs, and support staff to analyze data from Regents Exams, NWEA MAP assessments, and internal assessments to inform instructionFoster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that promotes high expectations and student voice.

  • Cultivate Innovation’s core values—Innovation, Collaboration, Respect, Safety, Activism, and Accountability—within classroom culture and instructional practiceProvide academic and social-emotional support to students outside of class as needed to support overall student success.

  • Participate in Enrichment Week, after-school programming, and extracurricular activities as part of Innovation’s holistic student experienceComplete a minimum of 40 hours of professional development annually and engage in continuous professional growth. 

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student achievementPerform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or their designee.

Teachers at Innovation are expected to contribute positively to a collaborative and mission-driven school culture by:



  • Demonstrating professionalism, flexibility, and a growth mindset. 

  • Engaging in feedback cycles with supervisors and peers to strengthen instructional practice. 

  • Actively participating in team meetings, professional learning communities, and school-wide initiativesUpholding school policies and contributing to a safe, supportive learning environment. 



Supervision


Teachers report to the Principal or their designee.



Evaluation


Teacher performance is formally evaluated at least twice per school year. Evaluations are transparent, collaborative, and growth-oriented, and are based on instructional practice, student outcomes, and fulfillment of the responsibilities outlined in this job description.



Compensation and Benefits


This is a full-time position. Innovation offers a highly competitive compensation package for NYS-certified teachers. Teachers who are not yet certified receive competitive compensation with a salary increase upon certification.


Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid family leave, life insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer matching contribution of up to 5%.
