Systems Administrator

to join our Information Technology Department.

Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. This position is responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance, and upgrades of the zoo's on-site and cloud-based servers as well as key infrastructure including software systems and network switches. This role will report directly to the IT Director and works with the Systems Engineer to implement the Zoo's IT infrastructure strategy.

Primary responsibilities of this position include maintenance and replacement of hardware systems such as servers, switches, and SAN's; installation and administration of server operating systems; management of Active Directory, SharePoint, Office 365, and interconnected software systems; and system maintenance tasks such as backups, monitoring, and notification. Additionally, the successful candidate will work closely with the IT Support team to provide 3rd level support, particularly in the areas of account and PC management. This is a full time, 40 hours/week position. Must be available for weekend and evening work. Typical work week is Monday-Friday. Works on-call weekend and evening work as required; adjusts availability particularly during peak times and during special events.

To be successful in this role, candidates must have a minimum of at least three (3) years of experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience in an IT-related field is required. Must have prior experience managing one or more of the following: Office 365 administration, virtualized Windows Server installation & administration, MS SQL Server installation & administration, SharePoint administration, enterprise backup system administration.

Prior knowledge/ experience in the following systems is highly desirable:

Other Operating Systems such as Linux & MacOS
Gateway Galaxy or other ticketing/admissions software
Raiser's Edge and/ or enterprise CRM software
VolP and teleconferencing systems
Position responsibilities and experience include, but are not limited to:

High School Diploma / G.E.D., along with formal IT training/certifications required. Bachelor's Degree in IT or related field from an accredited institution is strongly preferred.
Installs and upgrades server applications, OS'es, and network switches.
Works closely with the Systems Engineer to assist with implementing the Zoo's IT infrastructure strategy. This includes maintenance and replacement of hardware systems such as servers, switches, and SAN's; installation and administration of server operating systems; management of Active Directory, SharePoint, Office 365, and interconnected software systems; and system maintenance tasks such as backups, monitoring, and notification.
Responsible for the management of SAN systems and cloud storage, provisioning and administration of local and cloud-based operating systems, and the administration of enterprise applications such as Active Directory, SharePoint, and SQL Server.
Ensures the security, backups, and monitoring of server systems.
Safeguards the successful integration of new enterprise applications with the Zoo's existing infrastructure.
Works with the IT Support Team to provide 3rd-tier support, particularly in the areas of account and PC management as well as on an "as needed basis."
Completes independent projects including research and testing of systems, under the guidance of the Director of IT and the Systems Engineer.
Extensive operation and manipulation of computer interfaces and equipment including keyboards, mice, touch screens, printers, scanners, copiers, teleconferencing and wireless networking systems. Requires repetitive finger dexterity for operation and service of computer equipment. Service of some equipment may involve exposure to low and high voltage areas.
Must be able to operate all computer systems at an advanced level.
Position requires the ability to move from one area to another frequently, and to transport items (up to 50 lbs.) across grounds for various needs.
Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium to perform various jobs.
Must have a valid Indiana driver's license or the ability to obtain an Indiana's driver's license within thirty (30) days of starting. Must have a driving record insurable through the Zoo's insurance.
