Position Overview: The Senior Tax Manager in the Real Estate Practice oversees technical reviews, compliance, and advisory services for real estate businesses, including partnerships and flow-through entities. This role includes managing engagement economics, reviewing complex partnership allocations, developing staff, identifying tax issues, and strengthening client relationships. The position is structured as a future leadership opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking tax professional.
Key Responsibilities: - Develop and maintain strong client relationships with leading real estate companies. - Collaborate with internal teams to expand services and provide well-rounded business solutions. - Stay ahead of real estate industry trends to proactively advise clients. - Expand technical expertise through continuous professional development. - Perform technical reviews of tax returns and conduct advanced tax research. - Review operating agreements, LOIs, purchase agreements, and tax-related transaction documents. - Analyze partnership allocations, basis calculations, and other complex flow-through matters. - Manage engagement economics, including billing, collections, and workflow coordination. - Provide clear engagement updates and ensure teams are aligned to meet expectations. - Deliver performance feedback, training, and recognition to staff. - Recruit and retain top tax talent while supporting ongoing career development. - Build a strong network through colleagues, referral partners, prospects, and community involvement. - Represent the firm in the business community and actively engage in professional organizations.
Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Law; Master’s in Tax/LLM preferred. - 7+ years of recent public accounting experience managing real estate tax engagements. - Strong experience with entity and individual taxation, especially partnerships. - Ability to interpret profit/loss allocations and distribution language in operating agreements. - Proven leadership, workflow management, and team development experience. - CPA certification required. - Excellent communication and networking skills. - Strong client relationship management abilities. - Proficiency with tax software and technology.
