We're hiring part-time (30 hours/week) W-2 Teacher of the Visually Impaired to support K–12 students in the school setting for the 2026–2027 school year. Position Details

• Caseload: Elementary & Middle School


• Schedule: Monday – Friday


• Hours: 30 hours/week


• Dates: ASAP – June 2026


• Location: Onsite in Pittsburgh, PA schools

Responsibilities ​​

• Provide instruction in:
  
  
  
  • Braille reading and writing
  
  
  • Use of low vision devices and assistive technology
  
  
  • Orientation to materials and classroom access
  
  
  • Daily living and organizational skills
  
  
  
  


• Indirect support includes:
  
  
  
  • Adapting materials
  
  
  • Consulting with teacher
  
  
  
  


•  Assessment & Evaluation
  
  
  
  • Conduct Functional Vision Assessments (FVA) and Learning Media Assessments (LMA)
  
  
  • Evaluate how a student’s vision impacts learning
  
  
  • Collaborate with the IEP team to determine eligibility and services
  
  
  
  


• Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  
  
  
  • Develop and implement IEP goals specific to visual impairment needs
  
  
  • Address both academic and Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) areas
  
  
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), and district policies
  
  
  
  

Qualifications

•  ​​​​​Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or Visual Impairment


• Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification (TVI / Visual Impairment PK–12)


• Knowledge of braille (or willingness to obtain certification)
