Description

The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Teacher Programs Specialist. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Teacher Programs within the Museum’s Education Department, the Teacher Programs Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the Museum’s teacher professional development opportunities and other educator resources and programming. This includes presenting training sessions on content and pedagogy, developing online educational opportunities, helping to coordinate the Museum’s flagship summer professional development programs, and supporting the Museum’s new nationwide teacher ambassador program,. The Teacher Programs Specialist will support the expansion of the Museum’s educator-focused initiatives and the educational mission of the Museum onsite, online, and across the country.


Requirements

  • Support the development and coordination of the Museum’s week-long summer teacher professional development programs, as well as other educator professional development opportunities locally, nationwide, in-person, and online.
  • Develop the content and structure of online professional development offerings in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Distance Learning and coordinate the scheduling and staffing.
  • Participate in targeted outreach with educators and school administrators at local Louisiana schools, and support engagement with educators nationwide to build and maintain strong and trusted relationships with the Museum.
  • Work with the Teacher Programs Team to coordinate content presented in onsite and offsite workshops, schedules, and itineraries.
  • Work collaboratively with team members across the Education & Access division and with departments across the Museum to ensure rigorous and relevant program development and the successful execution of programs and events.
  • Assist with other Education programs as needed.
  • Participate in assigned task forces, staff committees, projects, assignments, tasks, etc. as directed by the Assistant Director of Teacher Programs, Director of Teaching and Learning or the Associate Vice President of Education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in history, education, museum education, arts administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ successful experience working with elementary and/or secondary school students and teachers in a school, museum, or other educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading professional development trainings for adults, especially teachers, a plus. Familiarity with both state-level and national standards across disciplines.
  • Familiarity with e-learning and collaboration tools, including Zoom, Canvas, Articulate, and Padlet.
  • Strong communication, planning, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Willingness to work overtime during special events, heavy programmatic or visitation periods, or to meet deadlines.
