The Parish School of Religion (PSR) Catechist supports the mission of St. Peter Catholic Church by helping children and young people grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. The Catechist provides age-appropriate religious instruction in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the curriculum and guidelines established by the parish and Archdiocese.
• Prepare for and lead scheduled PSR classes using the curriculum and materials provided or approved by the parish.
• Teach and model the Catholic faith in a manner appropriate to the age and developmental level of students.
• Create a welcoming, respectful, and faith-filled classroom environment.
• Encourage student participation in prayer, worship, the sacraments, and parish life.
• Maintain appropriate classroom expectations and supervision of students.
• Communicate with the PSR Director/Coordinator regarding student needs, concerns, attendance, or other classroom matters as appropriate.
• Participate in catechist meetings, training, and formation opportunities as requested.
• Follow parish and Archdiocesan policies and procedures, including all Safe Environment requirements.
• Assist with PSR liturgies, sacramental preparation, special programs, or other activities as needed.
• Perform other duties related to the PSR program as assigned.
• Practicing Catholic who supports the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
• Ability to work effectively and respectfully with children, parents, volunteers, parish staff, and clergy.
• Dependable, organized, and able to communicate effectively.
• Willingness to grow in knowledge of the Catholic faith and participate in appropriate catechetical formation.
• Must meet all Archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform the normal duties associated with a classroom environment, including standing, sitting, walking, and supervising children.
