Position Summary


The Department of Biomedical Sciences seeks a highly motivated Teaching Post-Doctoral Fellow to support education of osteopathic medical students in the area of anatomy within an established medical school curriculum. This position is designed for recent or soon-to-complete (ABD) PhD graduates in Anatomy or closely related disciplines who are interested in academic teaching, curriculum development, and student mentorship.


The fellow will gain structured experience in classroom teaching, assessment development, and learner support while contributing to the department’s educational mission. This role is ideal for candidates preparing for careers in academic medicine, biomedical education, or science teaching.


Key Responsibilities



  • Deliver lectures, using interactive formats, in general anatomy and related topics.

  • Assist with course preparation, including development of slides, learning objectives, and other teaching materials.

  • Write and review examination questions.

  • Participate in office hours, and academic support for students.

  • Mentor students in understanding core anatomy concepts and scientific reasoning.

  • Contribute to curriculum development and educational quality improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, faculty development activities, and teaching evaluations.

  • Engage in scholarship related to medical education, pedagogy, or anatomy education when appropriate.


Required Qualifications



  • PhD or ABD in Anatomy or a closely related biomedical science field by the start date.

  • Genuine interest in teaching and student engagement.

  • Strong foundation in general anatomy and solid background in biomedical sciences.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

  • Commitment to inclusive, learner-centered education.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Prior teaching experience as a graduate instructor, teaching assistant, tutor, or guest lecturer.

  • Experience with curriculum development, instructional design, or educational assessment.

  • Familiarity with medical or health professions education.

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as evaluations, awards, or teaching portfolio materials.

  • Interest in educational research or scholarship of teaching and learning.


Professional Development


The Teaching Post-Doctoral Fellow will receive mentorship and structured opportunities to build a portfolio in higher education teaching, assessment, and educational leadership. The fellow may also have opportunities to observe experienced educators, co-teach with faculty, and present at teaching conferences or education-focused seminars.
