The Team Lead – Youth Caregiver provides direct care and supervision to youth in a residential setting while serving as a shift leader and mentor to caregiving staff. This role combines hands-on support with leadership responsibilities to ensure a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where children and adolescents can heal, grow, and thrive. The Team Lead models best practices in trauma-informed care, promotes positive behavior supports, and ensures daily operations run smoothly and consistently.
Lead and support Youth Caregivers during assigned shifts.
Provide coaching, guidance, and real-time feedback to team members.
Assist in training new staff on policies, procedures, and best practices.
Ensure staff-to-youth ratios and safety standards are maintained at all times.
Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding incidents, concerns, and youth progress.
Provide supervision, structure, and emotional support to youth in care.
Implement individualized service plans and behavioral support strategies.
Facilitate daily routines, including meals, hygiene, recreation, homework, and bedtime.
Model positive communication, conflict resolution, and coping skills.
Transport youth to appointments, school, and community activities as needed.
Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment aligned with agency policies and licensing standards.
Complete accurate and timely documentation, including shift reports and incident reports.
Respond appropriately to crises using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques.
Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Work closely with case managers, therapists, educators, and families.
Participate in team meetings and case reviews.
Support family engagement and permanency planning efforts when appropriate.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children or adolescents in residential, foster care, or behavioral health settings.
Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles.
Ability to lead by example and foster a positive team culture.
Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
Strong organizational and documentation abilities.
Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
