Tech Lead

We're looking for a tech lead to lead our engineering team. That means setting the engineering direction, figuring out the right updates for the vector database, data pipelines, platform, and managing/growing the engineering team.

We're an SF team of ~20 engineers/researchers from Harvard, MIT, Apple, etc. We recently raised a $17m Series A from Lightspeed and Nvidia, and we just bought a $5m H200 cluster to train more models.

At Exa, our goal is to build systems that can instantly filter the world's knowledge to exactly what you want, no matter how complex your query. Basically, put the web into an extremely powerful database.

To do this, we're solving a ton of really hard (and fun) engineering problems. We built a billions scale vector db from scratch in Rust - we had to innovate in embedding representations, clustering, and more to meet our speed requirements. We are indexing millions of web-pages weekly and are doubling the surface area indexed every quarter. We routinely run batch jobs with >1000 machines and develop production services that involve many terabytes of text. Up for the challenge?
