We are looking for a Technical Writer to join our team for a 12+ month contract opportunity that is hybrid in Indianapolis, IN. The primary responsibility will be collaborating with the Digital Transformation and IT team, business units, and other third-party vendor(s) that will be providing change management and communications expertise, to create and implement new IT training protocols that will help drive adoption and adherence to IT systems and business processes, and to provide tactical project support that will ensure sustained learning of new systems or enhancements to existing systems, user guides, train-the-trainer events, etc.
This position is part of the Digital Transformation Project Management Office (PMO). While this role does not have direct employee supervisory responsibility, this person will be responsible for leading the PMO’s business user training strategy and tactics.
This position will have to work collaboratively with many others in the organization to succeed. This role will act as a coach for our business analysts and engagement managers w/r/t business user training needs. This role may also provide direct support and coaching to frontline managers and supervisors as they help their direct reports through transitions.
What You’ll Do
Apply a structured training development and execution methodology and lead IT project training/learning-related activities with our business units, leveraging this methodology
Collaborate with IT, Communications, and Business Units to align on an enterprise IT system training RACI and strategy
Complete training needs assessments across multiple areas
Evaluate and ensure user readiness
Identify, analyze, and prepare risk mitigation tactics associated to training, in collaboration with the project manager(s) / PMO
Proactively identify and manage anticipated resistance
Create actionable training development and execution deliverables that supports both the IT department, and business end-users: (training plans, train-the-trainer SOP, user guides, system interface and architecture, and other technical documentation support in collaboration with IT system owners, etc.)
Identify key stakeholder talent who play a role in the organizations commitment to sustained training best practices
Define and measure success metrics and monitor success of training that is developed
What You’ll Need
Required
10+ years of experience leading large-scale training development, execution, and documentation efforts at both a project and portfolio level
10+ years of experience leading training development and execution of large-scale process changes and software solution integrations with multiple business units
5+ years of experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools
10+ years of Familiarity with project management approaches, tools and phases of IT software development lifecycles
Good understanding of large organization issues, structure, and business acumen
Organized with a natural inclination for planning strategy and tactics
Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal
Able to work effectively at all levels in an organization
Ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences
Excellent active listening skills
Flexibility and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations
Ability to influence other and move toward a common vision or goal
Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships
Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with and through others
Forward-looking with a holistic/systems view approach
Desired
Experience with large-scale enterprise digital transformation / modernization efforts
State government / Indiana government experience
Relevant certifications
Physical Demands
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards
Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard and monitor
