Description

The Test Technician supports the inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and 

documentation of electrical power distribution equipment in commercial, industrial, and 

utility environments. This role performs entry-level to developing technician work under the 

direction of qualified senior technicians, engineers, or project leads. Certification is not 

required; however, the role is expected to demonstrate the knowledge, safety awareness, 

and work practices consistent with a NETA Level I / trainee-level electrical testing 

technician. Position Summary Pay: $48.00 hourly. The pay listed is the hourly rate for this position. Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning 

support for low- and medium-voltage electrical power systems.

Set up, operate under supervision, and remove electrical test equipment and 

temporary test leads.

Perform simple measurements and basic tests under direct supervision.

Support testing of equipment such as switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, 

cables, relays, meters, automatic transfer switches, batteries, and related 

electrical apparatus.

Assist with pre-test and post-test jobsite activities, including equipment 

preparation, cleaning, assembly, disassembly, labeling, and documentation.

Accurately collect test data, field notes, equipment information, and jobsite 

observations for customer reports.

Follow established test procedures, safety policies, lockout/tagout requirements, 

and energized-work controls.

Read and interpret basic electrical drawings, one-lines, schematics, wiring 

diagrams, equipment nameplates, and test forms.

Maintain tools, test equipment, company vehicles, and jobsite materials in a clean, 

organized, and safe condition.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, customers, and project 

stakeholders.

Support emergency response, outage work, weekend work, night work, and travel 

as business needs require.

Perform other duties as assigned within training, skill level, and safety 

qualifications.


 



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:


High school diploma or GED required.

0–2 years of related electrical, field service, electrical testing, utility, military, 

technical school, or industrial maintenance experience.

Basic understanding of electrical theory, AC/DC circuits, power distribution 

equipment, and safe work practices.

Ability to work under direct supervision and follow written and verbal instructions.

Basic knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, arc-flash, and electrical 

hazard controls, or ability to complete required training.

Ability to use hand tools, meters, and basic electrical test equipment safely.

Ability to read basic electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical 

documentation.

Strong attention to detail and ability to document work accurately.

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Willingness to travel, work overtime, weekends, holidays, nights, and respond to 

outage or emergency work as needed.


Preferred Qualifications: 


Technical school, military electrical training, apprenticeship, or associate degree 

coursework in electrical technology, power systems, electronics, or a related field.

Prior experience in electrical testing, field service, industrial maintenance, utilities, 

data centers, substations, or commercial electrical work.

Familiarity with NETA, ANSI, IEEE, NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, and manufacturer testing 

requirements.

CPR/First Aid, OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, MSHA, or similar safety training.

Experience assisting with insulation resistance, continuity, contact resistance, 

turns ratio, power factor, hipot, VLF, relay, meter, breaker, transformer, cable, or 

switchgear testing.

Safety-first mindset and ability to recognize electrical hazards.

Ability to work in a field environment with changing schedules and customer 

priorities.

Mechanical aptitude and comfort working around electrical power distribution 

equipment.

Ability to learn test procedures, equipment operation, and industry standards.

Basic computer skills, including entering data, using templates, and preparing field 

documentation.

Professional communication skills with customers and internal teams.

Dependability, punctuality, and willingness to learn from senior technicians.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and work 

with hands and tools.

Ability to lift and move tools, materials, and test equipment; may frequently handle 

heavy test sets or equipment with assistance.

Ability to work in electrical rooms, substations, industrial facilities, construction 

sites, outdoors, and customer environments.

Ability to wear required PPE and work in conditions that may include heat, cold, 

noise, confined spaces, and energized electrical environments when properly 

authorized.




Certification Requirement




NETA certification is not required for this role. Candidates with NETA Level I trainee 

experience or equivalent knowledge, training, and field exposure are encouraged to apply.
