Job Description - Technician Level 2 - Commercial

Commercial AV Install Technician – Level 2

Full-Time | Reports to: Project Foreman / Project Manager

About Logic Integration

Logic Integration is a nationally recognized audiovisual integration firm headquartered in Lone Tree, Colorado. We design, engineer, install, and support advanced AV, lighting, shading, and automation systems for commercial and residential clients across the United States. Our team delivers approximately 200 projects annually, ranging from $25K to $2M+, and we hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality, craftsmanship, and professionalism.

Role Summary

The Level 2 Install Technician is an intermediate-level position on the commercial installation team. Building on the foundational skills of a Level 1, the Level 2 Technician is expected to independently execute AV system installations, configure and test equipment, troubleshoot system issues, and take increasing ownership of job-site quality and task completion. This role works under the direction of the Project Foreman and Project Manager but requires significantly less supervision than a Level 1.

Level 2 Technicians are expected to fully understand signal flow, read complete AV construction documents, and begin mentoring Level 1 Technicians on-site. This role requires 1–3 years of experience in commercial AV, pro audio/video, or a related low-voltage trade.

Core Responsibilities

All Level 1 Responsibilities, Plus:

The Level 2 Technician is expected to perform all Level 1 duties proficiently (cable pulling, termination, labeling, trim-out, rack assembly, job-site cleanliness, time tracking, PPE compliance) and adds the following scope:

System Installation & Configuration

• Install, connect, and configure commercial AV systems including displays, projectors, audio DSPs, amplifiers, microphone systems, and video distribution

• Install and wire control system hardware (Crestron, Extron, etc.); upload and download programming code from internal or external programmers

• Configure and commission collaboration/conferencing systems (Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, Poly, Logitech)

• Install and configure digital signage systems and media players

• Terminate and test all connection types including 66/110 punch-down blocks, Krone, data blocks, CATV distribution, and satellite systems

• Construct, install, wire, dress, and label equipment racks to Logic Integration and AVIXA standards, including power sequencing and UPS integration

Signal Flow & System Understanding

• Demonstrate full understanding of audio and video signal types, routing, and quality (analog vs. digital, balanced vs. unbalanced, HDMI/HDBaseT/SDI/Dante/AES67)

• Read and interpret complete AV construction documents including floor plans, rack elevations, signal flow diagrams, one-line diagrams, and network schematics

• Understand product functionality, system interconnection, and how individual components contribute to the overall system design

• Identify and resolve signal path issues, ground loops, and impedance mismatches

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving

• Independently troubleshoot system-level issues using logical, step-by-step diagnostic methodology

• Debug installations by isolating faults across cabling, hardware, configuration, and programming layers

• Read and apply product manuals, technical bulletins, and manufacturer documentation to resolve issues without outside assistance

• Proactively identify job-site issues and communicate resolutions or escalation needs to Project Management

Quality & Professionalism

• Maintain a trained eye for detail and take pride in installation quality – cable dressing, labeling, mounting, and finish work

• Ensure all work meets AVIXA installation standards (ANSI/AVIXA A102.01) for cable management, rack building, and device mounting

• Complete punch-list items thoroughly and with urgency

• Begin mentoring Level 1 Technicians on proper techniques, standards, and work habits

Job Site Operations

• Coordinate daily with Project Foreman and Project Manager on task sequencing, material needs, and project status

• Communicate professionally with clients, general contractors, architects, and other trades

• Maintain awareness of project scope, change orders, and schedule impacts; escalate issues promptly

• Track and report time accurately using company time-tracking systems

• Maintain company vehicle – daily trash removal, weekly deep clean, organized tool and material inventory

Industry Standards Alignment (AVIXA / InfoComm)

Level 2 Technicians are expected to work in compliance with and develop deeper knowledge of:

• ANSI/AVIXA A102.01:2017 – AV Installation Standard

• ANSI/AVIXA F501.01 – Cable Labeling and Cable Pathways

• ANSI/TIA-568 – Structured Cabling Standards

• ANSI/TIA-606 – Administration Standard for Telecommunications Infrastructure

• ANSI/AVIXA V202.01:2016 – AV Display Image Size Standard

• ANSI/AVIXA A102.02 – AV System Performance Verification

• OSHA Construction Safety Standards (fall protection, PPE, electrical safety)

Active pursuit of AVIXA CTS certification is expected within 12 months of hire.

Career Path

Level 1 Technician → Level 2 Technician → Level 3 Technician → Project Foreman

What Separates Level 2 from Level 1

• Can work independently on installations with minimal supervision

• Understands complete signal flow and can read full AV construction documents

• Independently troubleshoots and resolves system-level issues

• Configures and commissions equipment (not just installs it)
