What You'll Do
The Technology Modernization Senior Specialist directly supports all capability areas in proactively managing activities to modernize equipment for future programmatic needs and improve equipment reliability and availability.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Modernization of production and facilities equipment across Fabrication areas
- Interact with Program Management and EP&C to determine equipment needs based on programs, capacity modeling, and scheduling demands
- Research technology improvements and requirements to improve current production and meet future programmatic needs
- Complete Functional & Operational Requirements for new equipment
- Work with various disciplines to determine layouts of new equipment to maximize efficiency
- Coordinate justification, purchase, shipment, receipt, and installation of new equipment
- Understanding the production deliverables schedule and assisting in the identification and resolution of equipment restrictions created by ongoing reliability issues and future needs
- Developing a consolidated long-range plan and funding strategy for equipment health over the planning horizon for the budgeting process
- Serving as the management system owner for the tools utilized for system health monitoring, including resolution of issues affecting the generation of system health reports and/or incorporation of improvement suggestions based on field use
- Supporting the Facility Health Review Committees in the orderly conduct of consistent and comprehensive reviews of system health reports and equipment performance trends
- Interacting with reliability engineering for equipment health issues
- Monitoring execution of preventative maintenance programs to maximize efficiency
- Identifying areas where maintenance program effectiveness or efficiency can be enhanced by working with cross-functional teams to bring about improvement to processes
Accountabilities:
- To the Fabrication Director and Deputy for technology modernization execution and production mission accomplishment
- To the Program Managers for leading technology advancement and mission needs
Authorities:
- Authorized to communicate production priorities for long-term sustainment needs involved in equipment budgeting and maintenance
- Authorized to represent production in meetings established to identify and prioritize activities that resolve equipment availability issues and promote equipment reliability

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree: Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
- OR Masters degree: Minimum 6 years of relevant experience
- OR PhD: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
- Fifteen (15) or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
Preferred Job Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years working within Y-12 Production Facilities
- Minimum 20 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with the design, project management, installation, field engineering, and maintenance of fabrication production and infrastructure equipment (both electrical and mechanical) is desired as this position will lead the technical efforts to establish plant specific maintenance standards for these aging facilities
- Experience conducting failure investigations and/or performing failure analysis leading to root cause and corrective action is desirable in order to develop Equipment Reliability databases and performance indicators
- Strong machining/manufacturing background
- Typical relevant experience 10 to 15 years

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
