San Francisco Public Works Information Technology (PWIT) designs, develops, operates, and maintains department-wide technology products, services, systems, and equipment. Services include process analysis and planning; software development, configuration, and implementation; network and hardware installation; technology operations; service desk and security; and software support and system compliance. PWIT manages an extensive portfolio of strategic technology initiatives, including application modernization, cloud migration, capital project and construction management, enterprise asset management, regulatory support, data management, collaboration improvements, and service management.
Public Works currently has a vacancy for a Technology Product Director within the Information Technology Division - Project Management Office.
As a Technology Product Director, and under the administrative direction of the Public Works IT Project Management Office (PMO) Manager, you will lead the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of digital products and technology services across the department. In this role, you will oversee major initiatives from early research and business‑case planning through implementation, operations, and ongoing enhancement. This hands-on leadership role integrates product management, program delivery, portfolio governance, service management, and organizational change.
Important and Essential Duties:
Your duties as a Technology Product Director may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Education:
An associate degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, UX/UI design or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely-related field].
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in digital product management, system administration, information systems development, maintenance and support, software engineering, or information technology project management, including two (2) years of experience leading a major technology product, system, or project involving cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders.
Substitution:
One year of additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree.
Note: One-year full-time employment is considered equivalent to 2000 hours (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above forty (40) hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Selection Procedures:

Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ): Candidates may be required to complete a Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ) as part of the employment application. This SQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The SQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
The selection process will include an evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, the department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate the qualifications of candidates. If this becomes necessary, only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the department will move forward in the recruitment process.
