METROPOLITAN KNOXVILLE AIRPORT AUTHORITY
The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) was established in 1978 as a nonprofit agency to own and operate the city's aviation system, McGhee Tyson Airport and Downtown Island Airport, and has recently celebrated a full 87-years in service to the East Tennessee area. Being centrally located within a one day's drive or a few hours flight from major cities, MKAA continues to be integral to the air transportation system. The Position:
We are currently seeking a non-exempt Telecommunicator I to receive and dispatch communications by way of radio and telephone dispatch technology, to assist Public Safety personnel in responding to alarms at McGhee Tyson Airport. He or she receives routine and emergency telephone calls, and requests for assistance concerning crimes, fires, rescue needs, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) flight information, maintenance, parking services and general information, and determines priority, location, jurisdiction, action, and agency to dispatch. Our Telecommunicators monitor the Airport Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system, airport crash phone, and airport security system. They take appropriate actions depending on the nature of emergency and facilitate emergency notification of Airport Authority and off-airports emergency response agencies. Initiates work orders requested by Authority personnel and airport tenants. They are responsible in facilitating 24-hour/7-days-a-week communication between Federal, State, and local agencies with Authority personnel, logs all communication into daily records, reports, audio and videotapes, and other recording mechanisms, as well as maintaining records, employee data, and emergency contacts. This is a fully on-site position that may require overtime. ***Current need is for Weekend Day Shift (Fri., Sat., Sun., & Mon.); shifts may vary.
Responsibilities:
The Ideal Candidate:
This candidate should be able to multitask and prioritize time, speak, and write clearly, follow verbal and written instructions, with experience in radio communications, and be able to provide general customer service. General knowledge of airport operations, phone systems, fire alarm systems, emergency procedures, basic aircraft knowledge, areas of responsibility for all departments, security procedures, policies, and property and building layout, and the access control workstation, is a plus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma, or equivalent, and at least 1-year's experience in communications, such as emergency dispatch, and working with the general public. Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO), Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System, and National Incident Management System certifications, preferred.
Salary and Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $36,465.90 to $47,405.67 depends on experience (DOE). MKAA offers a very competitive benefits package for this position, including medical/dental/vision benefits, disability/life insurance, vacation leave, sick leave, and a 401(a)-retirement program.
