TEMPORARY ASSISTANT SUPERVISOR – WATER
(1 POSITION)

Reporting to: Water Distribution Supervisor  
Department: Water Distribution
Classification: TEMPORARY Full Time (approx. 3 months); Unionized
Salary Range: $39.01/hour as per Schedule “A”
Hours of Work: As per CA.
Starting Date: As soon as possible

Responsibilities:
  1. Major responsibilities include:
  • Receive daily and/or weekly job assignments for completion from the Water Distribution Supervisor.
  • Act as a job-site liaison in dealing with the public and outside entities.
  • Arrange for utility locates in advance of planned work.
  • Ensure activities of assigned crews are coordinated and work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Arrange for and ensure proper equipment and installation procedures are used and record material/equipment used.
  • Report status of work being performed and unusual events to the Water Distribution Supervisor.
  • Assume additional administrative duties in the absence of the Water Distribution Supervisor including the Operator in Charge (OIC) duties.
  1. Prepare and instruct water operators and students of their daily and/or weekly job assignments as instructed by the Water Distribution Supervisor.
  2. Complete a daily record detailing work completed, equipment used, and staff assignments.
  3. Ensure that employees document their daily activities in their logbook to meet the Provincial standard for Operator record keeping.
  4. Ensure that all record-keeping for daily activities is completed properly and in a timely manner.
  5. Act as a member on the Drinking Water Quality Management Standard Committee.
  6. Monitor inventory levels and re-order stock as required.
  7. Work without supervision, individually, or as the leader of a team.
  8. Perform the duties of the Operator in Charge (OIC) such as:
    • Set operational parameters or direct/instruct other operators on the same,
    • Operate processes safely and in accordance with the respective manuals and procedures,
    • Make adjustments as needed,
    • Ensure specific regulatory and internal procedures records are maintained,
    • Ensure equipment is properly monitored and maintained with respective records being prepared.
  9.   Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Essential:
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma and/or relevant experience will be considered.
  • Valid Ontario Water Distribution Operators Certificate, with a minimum Class 2 and working to obtain a Class 3 certificate within 3 years.
  • Valid class “DZ” Driver’s License.
  • Supervisory abilities with good organizational and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good public relation skills.
  • Good knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and job specific hazards.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificate.
Preferred:
  • Construction experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to operate equipment is considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Subject to working outside in all weather conditions. 
  • Subject to working in dirty conditions and is required to do heavy lifting.
  • Must be available for after-hours work for emergencies and planned overtime.
