Job Description - Tenant Empowerment Navigator

TENANT EMPOWERMENT NAVIGATOR



SUMMARY: 


 Neighborhood Services Organization is launching a brand-new program called the Stay Housed Tenant Advocacy Center (Stay Housed). This program will support people who are at risk of losing their homes due to eviction. Stay Housed will offer guidance, advocacy, and connections to helpful resources.


 


The Tenant Empowerment Navigator is caring, committed, and great at problem-solving and works closely with tenants, landlords, and community partners to support housing stability. This role involves frequent work in the community to help tenants understand their rights, navigate the court system, and promoting the Stay Housed program through outreach.


 


The position requires strong communication skills to reach a wide range of audiences, care and concern about community empowerment and housing stability, and comfort working with people from all backgrounds, especially those who have been underserved and have limited access to opportunities. This role may involve stepping outside the job description as the program grows and changes, so flexibility is key.


 


Working hours are primarily Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with some evening, weekend and holiday hours as need dictates.  This position will begin on June 23, 2025.


 


 


 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


 Tenant Outreach and Engagement:



  • Reach out to tenants facing eviction or housing issues, share information on their rights and resources, and offer supportive, trauma-informed help.


Court System Navigation:



  • Help tenants navigate eviction court by explaining the process in plain language and connecting them to legal help. Support tenants in confidently advocating for themselves.


 Data Collection and Evaluation:



  • Keep accurate records of tenant support and outreach and help track and report on program results.


 Networking and Relationship Building:



  • Work with housing agencies, legal service providers, landlords and community groups to support tenants, and stay up to date on housing policies to advocate for their needs.


 Community Outreach and Engagement:



  • Engage in outreach by sharing program information with tenants in need, reach out to landlords to build relationships, represent the program at local events, and help plan outreach activities to raise awareness of our mission and resources.


 Other:



  • Other duties as a may be assigned to support the program’s mission.

  • Maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with privacy regulations.


 JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Training & Experience 



  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred; however, relevant work or life experience will also be considered.

  • Experience in working with low-income individuals is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in tenant advocacy, housing, outreach, or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish (spoken) is preferred.

 ·         Passionate about tenant rights, housing stability, and community service, with a commitment to supporting fair systems and helping vulnerable populations.


·         Communicates clearly and respectfully with people from all backgrounds, including court staff, the public, and diverse, disadvantaged groups. 


·         Can solve problems and support clients in tough situations.


·         Great at managing time, handling multiple tasks, and staying focused on details in fast-paced, high-pressure situations.


·         Great relationship-building skills and ability to work cooperatively with others to achieve common goals and improve client outcomes.


·         Knowledgeable about affordable housing, rental assistance, and eviction prevention, or able to quickly learn and connect clients to these resources.


·         Skilled in Microsoft Office and able to use or learn case management software to track clients and improve services.



  • Great communication skills; able to work well with tenants, partners, and teams. Can explain information clearly and supportively, even in fast-paced settings.


·         Good at solving problems and thinking clearly in complex situations; comfortable with collecting data and evaluating programs.


·         Experience in event planning, community outreach, and program coordination is preferred.


 


WORKING CONDITIONS:


·         Ability to travel throughout the community for outreach and meetings.


·         Comfortable with standing, walking, and carrying materials for outreach events and community activities.


·         Occasional periods of high stress may arise in the course of the role.


·         Full-time position, requiring up to 40 hours per week.


·         The position is based at NSO’s Stay Housed Tenant Advocacy Center, with frequent community based outreach.


·         The role involves collaboration across various departments, and responsibilities may evolve to meet the organization’s needs.



OTHER REQUIREMENTS:



  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance in the amounts of $100,000 Bodily Injury Liability, $300,000 Bodily Injury Liability per Accident and $100,000 Property Damage.  Cost for added coverage to be reflected in employee compensation package.

  • Clearance of background check and drug screen.  This is a Safety Sensitive Position for purposes of the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Act.
