Apply now to be a Summer Tennis Instructor at the Crystal Lake Park District. We can’t wait to see you on the court!  This position is seasonal from May 15, 2025-August 2025.  Up to 25 hours per week.



SUMMARY


The Tennis Instructor teaches tennis lessons in the park district’s summer tennis program or assists in teaching lessons at any time at the park district’s Racket Club. The Tennis Instructor reports to the either the Summer Tennis Program Coordinator or the Racket Club Tennis Director and may teach or help teach either group or private lessons to any age group.  The Tennis Instructor may also help to run tournaments, assist with junior matches or leagues, make calls to players or parents, answer the phone, or do clerical work for the lesson program or club.  The Tennis Instructor also assists with site clean-up, site maintenance work such as painting, installing windscreens, roll drying wet courts, weeding, net repairs, sweeping, and ball sorting.  


 


QUALIFICATIONS



  • Must be at least 16 years of age (or meet the applicable minimum age requirement under local/state labor laws).

  • At least one varsity high school tennis letter or a junior USTA ranking, plus a minimum of three years of tennis playing experience.

  • Prior group or private tennis-teaching experience is preferred, particularly experience working with children.

  • College or junior college playing experience is beneficial but not required.

  • Must be capable of playing at or above a strong high-school varsity level.

  • Demonstrated understanding of basic tennis-teaching methods and techniques.

  • Demonstrates an enthusiastic, positive attitude and maintains a professional appearance.



    • Exhibits strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with children and adults.

    • Displays reliability, responsibility, and the willingness to follow supervisory guidance.

    • Works collaboratively as part of a team.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



    • Teach group or private tennis lessons, or clinics to all ages and abilities as assigned.



    • Assist in teaching lessons or coaching adult or junior teams.

    • Assist in running tournaments, leagues, events or tennis activities.

    • Assist with the clerical work of the program or club.

    • Assist with the maintenance work of the program or club including site cleanup, sweeping courts, painting, installing windscreens, repairing nets or windscreens, hauling garbage, pulling weeds, sorting balls, roll drying wet courts, or other duties needed to be done for the program or club.

    • Follows all policies and procedures of the park district and Racket Club including, and especially, safety policies and procedures.     


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



    • Must be able to engage in rigorous physical activity, including standing for extended periods, feeding tennis balls, walking, running, bending, and stretching.

    • Typical teaching sessions may last two to four consecutive hours.

    • Must be able to perform duties in varying indoor and outdoor conditions, including hot and humid environments.

    • May be required to perform maintenance or other related tasks under similar weather conditions.
