Job Description - Territory Sales Manager- VT, MA, CT and RI

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Field Team Leadership & Management



  • Directly manage Business Counselors and Fresh Specialists within the assigned territory, providing clear expectations, operational guidance, and ongoing coaching.

  • In partnership with HR & Sales Leadership, lead all managerial activities including interviewing, hiring, disciplinary action, performance improvement, and termination decisions.

  • Conduct regular performance reviews, establish development plans, and support continuous skill-building to ensure team members are equipped to excel in their roles.

  • Monitor field team productivity, territory coverage, and execution quality; provide direction, feedback, and corrective action as needed.

  • Facilitate regular team meetings, communication touchpoints, and ride-alongs to ensure alignment, engagement, and consistent execution.


Territory Oversight & Execution



  • Serve as the first-level escalation point for field teams when complex or urgent retailer issues arise, coordinating cross-functional resources to ensure timely resolution.

  • Ensure successful execution of remodels, resets, planogram updates, and merchandising initiatives by guiding field teams through timelines, expectations, and collaboration with internal partners.

  • In partnership with Sales Leadership, support new customer development by coordinating field team involvement in onboarding, early-stage support, and operational integration.


Financial & Operational Support



  • Review store-level financial and operational performance with field teams, helping them interpret indicators and identify retailer opportunities for improvement.

  • Support field teams in vendor discussions or service escalations when necessary, ensuring AGNE’s standards for cost, quality, and service are met.

  • Communicate regularly with Sales leadership regarding territory updates, staffing needs, emerging issues, and recommended adjustments.


Administrative & Reporting



  • Review and ensure accuracy of field reporting, documentation, and follow-up actions to maintain high-quality service delivery.

  • Maintain organized territory records, store interactions, and escalation logs to support continuity and transparency.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support field effectiveness and overall business objectives.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:



  • Five or more years of experience in wholesale distribution, retail operations, territory sales, or a related field.

  • Prior experience overseeing or leading field-based team members such as counselors, merchandisers, or specialists.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage employee performance, conduct coaching conversations, and handle disciplinary or corrective actions.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and support a distributed team environment.

  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple field initiatives, escalations, and staffing needs.

  • Solid understanding of store-level financial indicators and ability to guide field teams in using those metrics effectively.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with CRM tools or Power BI preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Ability to travel up to 75%.


REPORTING TO THIS POSITION: Business Counselors, Fresh Specialists & Field Associates


NON-ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent relevant experience. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • This position requires frequent travel throughout the assigned territory, including regular day trips and periodic overnight travel.

  • Must be able to sit and drive for extended periods of time while traveling between customer locations.

  • Must be able to work in environments with varying temperature conditions (e.g., refrigerated or freezer sections when reviewing Fresh departments).

  • Requires the ability to operate a laptop, tablet, phone, and other mobile technology tools for extended periods.

  • Occasional evening or early morning work may be required to support store schedules, special projects, or team meetings.
