Test Technician, Environmental
The Environmental Test Specialist will be responsible for planning, resourcing and running dynamic and thermal environmental testing of components, and subsystems. They will help establish procedures to train technicians on test processes and equipment and be the first line of defense for any test equipment failures and upkeep. They will work directly with engineering to perform qualification and acceptance testing on space flight hardware to specifications. Specifically, the ability to set up and perform complex tests with minimal direction will be critical. They are also responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and calibrating test equipment, and coordinating with the facilities team to keep the equipment operational 24/7.
Key Responsibilities
Test Execution: Perform and component, subsystem, and system-level testing in TVAC and Vibe
Environmental Testing: Independently operate environmental test chambers for vibration, thermal, and vacuum testing to simulate launch and space conditions.
Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose and resolve technical issues or failures in test equipment, often collaborating with engineers.
Assembly and Modification: Construct and modify wiring harnesses, mechanical support equipment, and test fixtures from schematics, drawings, and technical documents.
Documentation and Reporting: Accurately document all test procedures, results, repairs, and service calls, and prepare reports on conducted testing
Maintenance and Calibration: Perform preventative maintenance and ensure the calibration of test equipment and tools, examples include torque wrenches and
Safety and Standards Adherence: Strictly follow safety protocols and industry standards when working with electrical components, at heights, and using power tools.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: A high school diploma or GED is typically required, with an Associate's degree or vocational training in automotive, electronics, telecommunications, or a related engineering field highly preferred.
Technical Skills:
Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems integration, testing, and troubleshooting, and working with equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs and computers.
Hands-on experience with thermal vacuum testing to include instrumenting test articles.
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and engineering drawings.
Experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) for test automation.
Soft Skills:
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and potentially customers.
Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment.
