POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director of Disability Support Services, the Testing Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring equitable access to academic resources for students with disabilities. This position supports the College’s commitment to access and inclusion by coordinating services that reduce barriers to student success. The Coordinator applies independent judgment and a strong understanding of disability-related accommodations to help create a learning environment grounded in compliance with federal and state accessibility laws. This is an on-campus position and is not eligible for remote work arrangements.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

The duties and priorities of this position may shift throughout the year based on the academic calendar. Workload and focus areas vary between the academic year and summer months, with certain responsibilities intensifying or changing depending on the College’s operational needs and student presence on campus.

Coordination & Support of Student Testing Accommodations (40%)

• Oversee and coordinate all aspects of accommodated testing for students with disabilities including exam scheduling, preparation of accessible documents and technology such as screen readers and audiofiles, proctoring (including both paper and digital exams), and ensuring a welcoming, distraction-reduced environment.


• Clearly communicate testing details, expectations, and procedures to students, and serve as a consistent, reliable point of contact throughout the testing process.


• Track academic success and student engagement data to evaluate the effectiveness of testing accommodations, identify trends, and inform continuous improvement efforts. 

Supervision of Peer Note-Takers (20%)

• Oversee and coordinate the College’s current note-taking services, including advertising the program, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating peer note-takers and reviewers.


• Manage scheduling and payroll for note-taking staff, and supervise student workers who assist with testing accommodations, including proctoring.


• In collaboration with the DSS Director, identify improvements to the note-taker program, including evaluation of and transitioning to AI-based and other note-taking software for adoption.


• Facilitate the procurement of accessible documents, and provide critical support in evaluating and troubleshooting assistive and AI-based technologies.


• Coordinate with Institutional Research to design and administer surveys for the evaluation and assessment of the peer note-taking program.

Collaboration with Faculty & Campus Partners (20%)

• Maintain collaborative communication with faculty about exams to ensure the best possible experience, both on the student and faculty side.


• Educate faculty on testing accommodation procedures and best practices in a supportive, solutions-focused way.

Ensure Compliance, Maintain Confidential Records & Promote Access (15%)

• Ensure compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) for students with accommodations for testing and note-taking. Maintain awareness of and fulfill responsibilities related to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.


• Maintain accurate and confidential student records in a complex database to support smooth testing procedures and coordinated services. 


• Develop and revise as needed policies and procedures that maintain a welcoming, supportive testing environment that assures academic integrity and honesty. 


• Manage  the DSS Testing Center space, initiating safety and crisis response as needed, and reporting violations of Standards for Use of Testing Facilities. 

Evolving Responsibilities (5%)

• Contribute to additional projects and initiatives as needed, adapting to evolving priorities and organizational needs.


• Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on accommodations best practices, applying new knowledge to enhance the student experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Must be able to explain and/or demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Specifically,

• Ability to actively and positively contribute to the College’s core values of diversity, equity, inclusion, antiracism and access. 


• Experience in the technical realm sufficient to enable effective proctoring of digital testing.


• Ability to work independently and in team settings while balancing multiple responsibilities and meeting deadlines.


• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with faculty, students, and staff while setting and upholding appropriate professional boundaries.


• Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, and verbal communication with superior attention to detail.


• Ability to supervise a large group of student workers, in a variety of work assignments and complex payroll.


• Experience with collecting and evaluating data, with the goal of assessing achievement of student and unit outcomes.


• Ability to propose innovative approaches and creative solutions.


• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor while fostering a welcoming and pleasant environment in the Testing Center.


• Familiarity with databases and technology, with a strong commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelor’s Degree.


• Experience with computer systems, including assistive and AI-driven technologies to support accessibility.


• Experience supervising diverse students in an educational setting.    


• OR a combination of relevant education, training, and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Training or certification in first aid and behavioral crisis response.


• Basic understanding of accessibility and disability support services in higher education.


• Experience supervising diverse students at the college or university level.
