Job Description - Testing Proctor

Department:  Dean’s Casual Labor


FLSA:                 Non-exempt   


Designation:  Per-diem, staff


Reports to:     Testing Coordinator


Schedule:        Variable hours, details below.


 


POSITION SUMMARY


The Testing Proctor is responsible for administering and supervising standardized assessments, including the SAT, PSAT, ACT, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams, in a secure, fair, and consistent manner. This role ensures strict adherence to testing protocols, maintains an appropriate testing environment, and supports students in accordance with established guidelines and approved accommodations. Availability to work the established testing schedule is required. Testing Proctors play a critical role in upholding the integrity and security of standardized testing.


 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Administer standardized exams in accordance with the College Board, ACT, and institutional testing procedures.

  • Prepare testing rooms by arranging seating, materials, and equipment as required.

  • Verify student identity and ensure accurate distribution and collection of all testing materials.

  • Actively monitor testing sessions to maintain a secure, quiet, and distraction-free environment.

  • Enforce all testing rules and procedures and promptly report any testing irregularities or concerns.

  • Provide approved testing accommodations as directed and documented.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student information and testing materials.

  • Accurately complete required documentation, including attendance logs and incident reports.

  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of testing spaces before and after exams.


SCHEDULE


Hours vary, generally beginning at 7:15 a.m.


End times range from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., depending on the exam.


Availability is preferred for all test dates, including:



  • Second Saturday in April.

  • The first three weeks of May (weekdays). During May, work will include most weekdays and the first Saturday.

  • Second and third Saturdays in September.

  • First Saturday of October, November, December, May, and June.

  • Third Saturday in October.

  • One Wednesday in October.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous experience in an educational or standardized testing environment preferred.

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and comply with strict testing protocols.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to remain focused for extended periods.

  • Ability to manage groups of students calmly and professionally.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Basic computer skills and comfort using testing-related technology.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain attentive during testing sessions.


 


PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:



  • Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to walk throughout testing areas to actively monitor students.

  • Ability to maintain alertness and focus for the duration of testing sessions.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move testing materials and supplies (generally up to 15 pounds).

  • Ability to read printed materials and computer screens.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff in a quiet testing environment.

  • Work is performed primarily indoors in classrooms or testing spaces.

  • Testing environments require sustained periods of minimal noise and limited movement.
