TheatreSquared Apprentice Program: Fall 2025 - Spring 2026 

TheatreSquared is seeking a class of 3 apprentices for the 2025/26 Season. TheatreSquared’s Apprentice Program for emerging young professionals is designed to launch the careers of talented early arts leaders, with a special focus on candidates with lived experiences traditionally underrepresented in the American Theatre. TheatreSquared strongly encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including but not limited to those from diverse racial, cultural, and socioeconomic experiences, as well as individuals who have faced systemic barriers to access in the arts.

Apprentices receive a living wage, personalized training, and an in-depth, hands-on experience with top-tier professionals at T2, serving as a launching pad for a lifetime career in professional theatre. Each participant has the opportunity to receive specialized mentorship in a designated focus area. The apprenticeship culminates in a group project where all apprentices work together to create and execute a program of their choosing. 

APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Possible apprenticeship areas include Marketing, Technical Direction, Production Management, Arts Management, and Community Experience/Events. Before selecting a department, please review the descriptions to ensure the best fit.

Please note, we do not offer an acting apprenticeship.

Apprentices report to the Director of Education.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a dedicated early-career theatre professional, this apprentice will be a valued member of an inclusive and collaborative workforce. Together, we’ll explore the question:
“How can a theatre be an agent of social change, fostering a more equitable community?”

QUALIFICATIONS

• Commitment to a 35–40 hour workweek for the duration of the program (August 18, 2025 – May 16, 2026)


• Passion for live theatre


• Highly organized and proactive, with strong multitasking and time-management skills


• Goal-oriented, self-motivated, adaptable, and receptive to feedback


• Reliable transportation


• At least 21 years of age by the start of the program


• Ability to secure local housing

DESIRABLE SKILLS

While prior theatre experience is preferred, it is not required. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are key!

Compensation & Benefits 

This temporary, full-time position includes a weekly wage of $640, averaging 35 to 40 hours per week. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 15 days of PTO, holiday pay for six recognized holidays, allotted show tickets, access to the company employee assistance program, and the opportunity to regularly experience professional live theatre.

Below is a list of available apprenticeship departments, each accompanied by a brief description.

Marketing Department:

• The Marketing department designs and executes all marketing materials for TheatreSquared, maintaining the T2 brand.  They build strategies for sales and advertising to promote all shows and events at T2 and work closely with the box office to reach ticket and subscription sales goals and expand T2’s audience. 

Community Experience/Events:

• The Community Experience Department oversees TheatreSquared’s in-house restaurant The Commons Bar/Cafe, all special events at T2, and supports the safety and security of the audience before, during and after performances. The primary goal of the department is to increase the awareness of and accessibility to our space for all members of our community.  The apprenticeship will focus on both internal and external event coordination.  

Technical Direction

• The Technical Director supervises all aspects of the build and load in/out of our performances.  They organize drafting of scenery drawings, budgeting of time, money and resources, scheduling work calls and much more to make the productions run smoothly.

Production Management:

• Production management works closely with the Artistic department to implement the vision of directors and designers for each production.  Production management has oversight of the various areas of the production department which envelopes the areas of Scenery, Costumes, Lights, Audio, Props, and Stage Management.  They facilitate communication, create season calendars, manage the production budget, and more.  

Arts Management:

• Arts management works directly with the Executive Director and Business Department (Finance, Human Resources, and Company Management) to help create a safe and supported space for the creation and experience of the art. This includes working to bring audiences to the theatre—while eliminating barriers to their participation—building relationships in the community to help pay for the work and deepening the connections of visiting artists to the organization. Arts managers also bridge these day-to-day needs with short and long-term planning, creative producing, and building a healthy organizational culture.
