Job Description - Therapist

SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR

The Substance Abuse Counselors role is to provide mental health and substance abuse assessments, develops individualized treatment plans; facilitates individual, crisis, and family counseling; The counselor will assist in motivating and addressing ambivalence with individuals dealing with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Provide clinical oversight of the Behavioral Health Technician. The counselor will report directly to the Clinical Director.

Provide 1:1 counseling related to substance abuse utilizing a trauma informed model of care.

Participate in team treatment, team planning and goal setting.

Will maintain a valid Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners License and remain in good standing while employed

Requirements

EDUCATION and QUALIFICATIONS

Valid AZ Board of Behavioral Health License to Practice is required

Minimum of age of 21 years-old and a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Substance Abuse Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited college or university

Working knowledge of the DSM-V, community resources, clinical methods, and procedures and application of the same

A license in good standing as a LASAC, LISAC (preferred) or LAC, LPC, LMSW, LCSW, LAMFT, or LMFT (with substance abuse experience) in the state of Arizona

Working knowledge of the 12-Steps and AA Program

Working knowledge of the six dimensions of the ASAM Criteria

Residential experience, knowledge of psychotropic medication, and illness common to the population

If in recovery, must have at least one-year of sobriety

Adhere to the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselor (NAADAC) Code of Ethics

Able to secure and maintain a fingerprint clearance card through the Department of Public Safety

Valid CPR and First Aid certification while employed
