The Tissue Distribution Specialist shall be proficient in all aspects of eye banking including evaluation, distribution and delivery/shipping of human corneas for transplant. The Tissue Distribution Specialist may be required to obtain certification (CEBT) from the Eye Bank of Association of America following one year of employment. This position will have Sundays as part of the expected work schedule and can include early mornings. This will be a full time position with benefits.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. Responsible for all areas of corneal distribution, including but not limited to:
Chart creation and completion assuring accurate completion of corneal paperwork and complete donor and medical record.
Responsible for requesting complete medical records in compliance with FDA 1271 Part 21.
Evaluation of corneas through gross evaluation, slit-lamp evaluation, and specular-microscopic evaluation to make a determination for transplant quality.
Aggressively offer corneal tissue to surgeons and other distribution partners both nationally and internationally.
Ensures proper documentation, packaging, delivery, and shipping of corneal tissue.
Properly documents offers, acceptance and distribution of corneas.
Maintains and accurate surgery schedule as provided by local and area surgeons of upcoming transplant surgeries and communicates the need for pre-cut and specialty graft preparation.
Exhibits an understanding of the unique gift of eye donation and the impact distribution contributes to the process
Promotes good relations with eye banks, surgeons by offering to and or requesting tissue from distribution partners.
Promotes DLSH as a source of high quality tissue to grow distribution on a local, national and international basis.
Consults with Clinical Manager, Medical Director Designee, and Medical Director as needed, to obtain medical decisions/consults.
Consistently performs duties in accordance with established standard operating procedures, policies, and regulations in accordance with FDA and EBAA standards.
Notifies Director of Quality of deviations from established operating procedures.
Participates, in person, to all appropriate meetings and training opportunities offered at DLSH
Maintains strict confidentiality of all DLSH information.
Must have valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history and be able to travel within the service area
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule
EDUCATION & TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Note: Certificates, Licenses and Trainings must be completed at first available training if not already obtained
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
EBAA certification may be required after one year of employment.
