Essential Job Functions:
Provides timely and consistent support to assist teachers in the implementation of supplemental programs and instruction, including comprehensive strategies for the designated focus area(s)
Plans and implements a schedule of regular in-class support and demonstration experiences for teachers
Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence
Coordinates the acquisition and distribution of related materials and supplies
Solicits principal/teacher input relative to additional needs for professional development to support the supplemental instruction for Title I
Coordinates the collection of data relative to Title I schools
Prepares and delivers staff development activities related to Title I and/or specified instructional area(s)
Visits classrooms for teaching support and consultation; monitors instructional programs in Title I schools; conducts routine observations of the effectiveness of instructional programs
Serves as a professional resource and provides support to teachers, school administrators and other instructional personnel, community partners, and parents
Uses data to make instructional decisions related to curriculum and instruction and to monitor and assess student, teacher, school, and system performance; Disaggregates data to provide ongoing assessment of student achievement; Recommends and implements improvements to instruction and assessment based on ongoing analysis of results
Supports specified school improvement strategies, in conjunction with Title I guidance
Designs professional development and leadership opportunities for teachers in Title I schools; Designs professional development plans for individual teachers or for the school; Coaches or mentors teachers in Title I schools; Works with teachers in implementation of research-based instructional strategies in daily lesson plan design
Collaborates with division-level curriculum specialists and participates in division-level committees, as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
Budgetary Responsibility:
This position has no budgetary responsibility.
Report Preparation:
Prepares reports, as requested, on various metrics of Title I instructional programs
Equipment Operation:
Utilizes laptop, projector, interactive smart display, and general office equipment
Contacts:
Contacts are regularly and frequently made at all organizational levels, both within and outside of the department to explain and implement programs and policies. Frequent contacts include school administrators, lead teachers, department chairs, instructional specialists, directors, and the Offices of School Improvement, Technology Services, and Professional Learning.
Work Direction/Supervision:
This position provides guidance and support to various school personnel, but does not supervise others.
Decision Making:
Complex work is performed within specific departmental objectives and policies and within federal and state guidelines. The employee functions independently within the context of daily activities, plans own work, and coordinates with others as necessary. Considerable professional judgment is required.

This position has no formal policy-setting responsibilities.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to lift, support, handle, or feel objects, tools, equipment and/or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop or kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in a school or office setting. The noise level is typically quiet to moderate.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the content, concepts, principles, and methodologies of specified instructional areas in a public school setting; of current curriculum development and Virginia Standards of Learning; of program implementation of specified instructional areas; and of learning theory, recent research, school organization, supervision, and available state and local resources
Demonstrated skills in a wide variety of media and technology to support job functions
Demonstrated ability to secure, monitor, and evaluate appropriate specified instructional area programs; to coordinate complex programs and activities; to organize, schedule, and monitor work assignments; to train and advise staff; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, program management, and research and planning
Valid Virginia teaching license, with a minimum of five years successful teaching experience in a public or accredited private school
