Job Description - Toddler Teacher


Salary: $40,000 to $42,000

Job Type: Full Time 

Work Schedule: Mondays through Fridays - hours vary according to center

Location: Marshall (2318 N. Marshall Street)

Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha (APM) has been helping families achieve their greatest potential since 1970 by providing early childhood education, foster care & adoption, child welfare, mental & behavioral health, community and economic development, housing, community school services, and violence intervention services to the North Philadelphia communities.  

SUMMARY

The toddler teacher works with children from ages 12 months up to 36 months. The teacher must be knowledgeable about toddler cognitive, social, emotional and physical development to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The toddler teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and responsive environment that meets each child's individual needs and temperament and encourages them to discover the world through play. The toddler teacher is responsible for organizing activities including individual and small group play reading aloud encouraging interaction and exploration and serving meals and snacks. The toddler teacher organizes developmental screening child observation recording child assessment, lesson plan, development child progress reports, parent conferences, and home visits. The toddler teacher is responsible for daily reporting to parents’ development developing a cognitive teaching team coordinating the curriculum and managing the day-to-day operation activities of the classroom. The teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults to meet the needs of the children, effectively direct the work of the co-teacher and resolve parental concerns.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and implement with fidelity and educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards. Ensure plans and activities are play based and meet      each child's individual needs including any IFSP goals.
  • Lead by example, encouraging teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
  • Weekly plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
  • Weekly conduct observation of children and monthly enter them into the developmental assessment software.
  • Maintained frequent communications with parents through informal discussion, progress reports and parent teacher conferences.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children. 
  • Supervises co-teachers and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, forms and files. Maintain personnel professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Educational requirements

  • Required: Child development associate certificate (CDA) and enroll in an associate program within six months of employment.
  • Preferred: Associate’s degree in early childhood education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 credits in ECE. Or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 ECE credits.

Additional knowledge, skills and experience required:

  • Minimum of two years of professional childcare experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Energy and the ability to work well with others open (staff, children and parents close) and to foster a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Infant/child CPR and first aid certification.
  • Must clear full background checks and must pass health screening.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 35lbs
  • Ability to engage in various physical activities
