Allstate Can, a division of The Ohio Art Company, is in search of a Tool & Die Machinist. This position will be required to work 4 days a week (M-Th 6a-4:30pm) with overtime potential on Fridays.
The Tool & Die Machinist is responsible for fabricating, maintaining, and repairing tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and other precision components to support production and ensure high-quality manufacturing operations. This role requires strong technical skills, precision machining capabilities, and adherence to safety and quality standards. As a union position, the machinist is covered under a collective bargaining agreement that governs wages, benefits, and working conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret engineering blueprints, CAD files, schematics, and technical drawings.
Set up and operate manual machine tools including lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, EDM, etc.
Manufacture, assemble, and test precision dies, molds, and tooling used in production.
Perform maintenance and repair of existing tools and dies to prevent downtime.
Conduct inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measuring tools to verify part conformity.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to modify tools for improved performance.
Maintain clean and organized workspaces and comply with safety standards.
Document work performed, including material usage and job tracking records.
Follow union safety regulations, shift schedules, and workplace protocols.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent (GED); technical trade school or apprenticeship completion preferred.
Minimum of 3–5 years experience as a machinist or tool & die maker.
Strong knowledge of machining practices, blueprint reading, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
Experience operating manual machining equipment.
Understanding of heat treating, material types, and manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with OSHA and union safety guidelines.
Working Conditions:
This is a full-time, hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAMS contract).
Work to be performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment.
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
