Elmet Technologies is hiring a 3rd Shift Tool & Die Setup team member to join our Extrusion team in Coldwater, Michigan.

This is a hands-on technical manufacturing role supporting the tooling and equipment that keep our extrusion operation running. You’ll inspect, clean, repair, and maintain tooling; support equipment and tooling changeovers; perform basic maintenance; and help make sure the team has the right tools and materials when they’re needed.

You’ll also have the opportunity to put your CNC and machining skills to work while gaining broader experience across our Hot Process operation. If you have manufacturing experience, understand machining, and like solving mechanical problems, this could be a strong next step.

Your Schedule

This is a full-time, 3rd Shift position at our Coldwater, Michigan manufacturing facility. 

You’ll work as part of the Extrusion team while also providing support throughout the Hot Process department when needed.

What You’ll Do

Your primary focus will be making sure our extrusion tooling is safe, functional, available, and ready for production.

During a typical shift, you’ll:

• Inspect, clean, repair, and maintain extrusion tooling
• Keep tooling properly inventoried and ready for production
• Maintain liner inventory and coordinate cleaning and delivery with vendors
• Assist the Extrusion team with tooling and equipment changeovers
• Perform assigned maintenance on presses and related equipment
• Help troubleshoot tooling and equipment issues
• Use CNC and machining skills to support production needs
• Perform Total Productive Reliability activities
• Maintain 5S standards and keep work areas clean, safe, and organized
• Operate forklifts, cranes, hand carts, industrial tools, and other equipment
• Maintain inventory-control systems, including Kanban and vendor-controlled consumables
• Complete production logs and other required documentation in Global Shop
• Work throughout the Hot Process department as a utility operator when needed
• Support safe and efficient production while maintaining expectations for quality, cost, and delivery

The underlying Coldwater position combines tooling maintenance, production support, equipment maintenance, inventory management, changeovers, and utility-operator responsibilities. 

You Could Be a Great Fit If You:

This role is designed for someone who already has a foundation in manufacturing and machining.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Has 3–5 years of manufacturing experience
• Has CNC and machining skills
• Is comfortable working with production machinery and industrial tools
• Understands the importance of accurate equipment and tooling setup
• Has mechanical aptitude and enjoys troubleshooting problems
• Can inspect equipment and recognize when something needs repair or attention
• Can manage tooling, materials, and inventory accurately
• Can follow established safety and quality procedures
• Is willing to support multiple areas when production needs change
• Can work independently while also supporting the broader production team

Experience working with lathes is preferred, and previous experience in metals manufacturing or a similar department is a plus.

A high school diploma or GED is preferred. You’ll also need to obtain and maintain the required crane and forklift licenses for the position.

• Respond effectively when production priorities change
• Support the Extrusion and Hot Process teams wherever their skills are needed
• Keep work areas organized according to 5S standards
• Look for ways to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime
• Communicate clearly with teammates, leadership, vendors, and other departments

More Than Machine Operation

This role gives you the opportunity to work at the intersection of machining, tooling, equipment maintenance, and production.

Rather than operating one machine throughout your shift, you’ll help make sure the equipment and tooling behind the extrusion process are ready to perform.

You’ll also serve as a utility operator within the Hot Process department, giving you broader exposure to the operation and an opportunity to continue building your manufacturing knowledge.
