Job Overview: Reporting to the Machine Shop Manager, the Tool, Die and Fixture Maker is responsible for the design, development, building, calibration and repair of tools, jigs, fixtures and other items utilized in the manufacturing/production process. Analyzes specifications, sets up and operates machine tools. Works collaboratively with Mechanical Engineers to meet individual needs. Provide necessary support, coaching and advice to ensure work is being processed in the most efficient manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support Mechanical Engineering to design, machine and build fixtures and gauges for manufacturing using documented designs.
- Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models or descriptions and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines needed to fabricate parts.
- Propose design changes and improvements to existing jigs and fixtures.
- Administer a preventative maintenance program to maintain jigs and fixtures.
- Prototype and prove out programs in various different machines.
- Computes dimensions, plans layout and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems.
- Work directly with leaders and team members regarding processes and procedures
- Create a positive work environment for team members. Treat all team members with respect.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent. Additional training (Associates degree and/or certifications) a plus. Journeyman or equivalent experience.
- At least two (2) years of experience in machine shop environment; ability to read and understand blueprints, including machining tolerances, GD&T and weld symbols
- Proficient in developing jigs, fixtures and other items
- Skilled in building jigs and fixtures; ability to print using manual and CNC machine equipment, welders and hand tools. Able to set up CNC equipment for production runs, including cutting tool selection.
- Excellent communication skills. Ability to convey ideas and programs. Positive attitude.
- Strong attention to detail. Ability to work to tolerance of +/- 0.0001
- Good math and GD&T skills
- Ability to promote and live ETE Values on a daily basis. Willingness to learn.
