Position Summary

Southern Core Recycling is seeking an experienced Torch Cutter to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing and processing scrap metal using oxy-fuel and plasma cutting equipment. The position also requires the safe operation of material-handling equipment to move material before and after cutting.

The ideal candidate has previous experience cutting metal in a scrap, recycling, fabrication, industrial, or similar environment. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors in an active industrial facility and understand the importance of safe torch operation and proper material handling.

Essential Responsibilities

• Operate handheld cutting equipment to cut and prepare scrap metal for processing.
• Prepare, size, and clean metal for further processing.
• Safely move and position material before and after cutting.
• Inspect cutting equipment and work areas before beginning work.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures when working with cutting equipment and heavy machinery.
• Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other employees regarding material preparation and equipment operations.
• Perform basic equipment care and report maintenance or safety concerns to management.
• Assist with other yard and processing duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Previous experience cutting metal with a torch.
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate cutting equipment in an industrial environment.
• Strong awareness of surroundings and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and follow direction from supervisors.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
• Dependable, punctual, and professional.
• Commitment to safe work practices.

Preferred

• Previous experience in torch cutting in an industrial environment.
