Job Description - Track Chair Program Coordinator

Position Summary


The Track Chair Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Track Chair program which provides access to many of the trails in Frick Park, Pittsburgh largest city park, for individuals with mobility challenges. Responsibilities include volunteer recruitment and training, reservation management, user engagement and evaluation. This person in this position works to ensure the experience of each track chair user is safe, accessible and enjoyable from the time of reservation to the time they return in the track chair. Based at the Frick Environmental Center this position serves as a member of the PPC’s education team


The ideal candidate has relevant work experience, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to serving others.  Essential soft skills for this position include patience, clear communication, flexibility and problem-solving. The candidate is an adaptive leader that excels in working collaboratively and independently.


 


Position Duties



  • Lead and conduct track chair outings with users

  • Recruit and train volunteers to accompany track chair users on outings

  • Oversee volunteers during scheduled hikes

  • Work collaboratively with members of the Education department and regularly interface with Visitor Experience & Operations and Advancement teams to integrate accessibility across programs and priority areas.

  • Interact with and be responsive to park visitors, volunteers and program participants to understand and support their accessibility needs.

  • Coordinate and assist with the maintenance of chairs

  • Correspondence with participants including confirmations, cancellations. and concerns

  • Integrate use of track chairs into public programs and school programs as requested.

  • Maintain first aid and CPR certification.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Friendly, courteous, enthusiastic, and committed to providing excellent service to all users and park visitors

  • Ability to communicate well with a diverse population of participants

  • A safety-oriented mindset and ability to exercise sound judgment

  • Must be comfortable being outdoors for up to six hours in a variety of conditions including hot, cold, windy, and/or wet weather.

  • Ability to communicate positively and effectively, orally and in writing

  • Ability work independently, problem-solve, and be a self-starter





Requirements



  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree or some college in a related field such as Special Education, Rehabilitation, Disability Justice, Human Services or Assistive Technology is a plus but not required.

  • This position is full-time and requires weekend availability (both Saturday and Sunday) as part of the regular work week. Occasional evenings may also be required.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Use of Microsoft Office Suite and experience with database management. Ability to train, support and advise others including staff and volunteers.

  • Experience in a direct service setting working directly with diverse populations that include people with disabilities, caregivers and children.



  • Maintain first aid and CPR certification.

  • Valid driver’s license and eligibility to drive work vehicles

The physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, pull, push, feel, grasp, lift, talk, see, hear and perform repetitive hand/arm motions. The ability to remain in a sitting or standing position for extended periods of time. The incumbent may be required to traverse on rough, uneven terrain, as well as wet and slippery surfaces.
