This role is responsible for leading a team of Traffic Analysts and/or Traffic Clerks within the Corporate Traffic Department. As part of a centralized transportation team, the position plays a key role in delivering exceptional customer service while optimizing transportation costs and supporting company-wide supply chain objectives.


The successful candidate will ensure the execution of departmental and organizational strategies while partnering closely with retail divisions to support operational day-to-day needs at the local level. This leadership role is responsible for fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and service excellence through effective coaching, mentoring, and employee development.


Location: Deer Valley Campus, Phoenix, AZ


Main responsibilities:



  • Deliver industry-leading transportation service by ensuring on-time product delivery across multiple retail divisions and commodity groups, including produce, meat, wet and dry groceries, and other perishables.

  • Strategically source, select, and manage carrier partners to achieve service, cost, and performance objectives.

  • Optimize transportation spend through effective load planning, carrier management, and tactical execution of transportation strategies.

  • Monitor carrier performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement corrective actions to enhance service and efficiency.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between Transportation, Replenishment, Distribution, and other internal stakeholders to proactively resolve service issues and operational challenges.

  • Identify training needs and facilitate department-wide learning and development initiatives.

  • Maintain and enhance transportation management systems (TMS), appointment scheduling platform, and related operational tools to ensure data integrity and operational efficiency.

  • Partner closely with Distribution Center leadership to maximize receiving capacity, improve flow, and reduce operational costs. 

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Transportation Analysts and/or Traffic Clerks to achieve operational and business objectives.

  • Conduct regular performance discussions, establish clear expectations, and provide ongoing coaching to support employee growth and development.

  • Participate in recruiting activities, including candidate screening, interviewing, and selection processes.

     


We are looking for candidates who possess the following:



  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.

  • 4–6 years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain operations.

  • 2–3 years of people leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, and talent development.

  • Working knowledge of both dry and perishable commodity transportation, including produce, meat, grocery, and temperature-controlled freight.

  • Understanding of transportation regulations and compliance requirements, including DOT Hours of Service, CARB, and other applicable legislation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to analyze data and communicate insights effectively.

  • Demonstrated self-starter with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven success in coaching, developing, and empowering high-performing teams.

  • Ability to inspire employee engagement and drive accountability while fostering a positive team culture.

  • Experience building and managing strategic relationships with carrier and supplier partners.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely, data-driven decisions.

  • Customer-focused mindset with a strong sense of urgency and commitment to delivering results.

  • Strong negotiation, influencing, and relationship-management skills.

  • Flexibility to support business needs, including rotational weekend coverage and non-traditional work hours when required.
